A Trap Called Desire: Jeon Hye-won and Joo Sae-byeog clash in explosive premiere

KBS 2TV's new daily drama 'A Trap Called Desire' opened with a prelude of intense conflict, centered on the sharp confrontation between Jeon Hye-won and Joo Sae-byeog.

In the first episode of the KBS 2TV daily drama 'A Trap Called Desire' (directed by Lee Dae-kyung and Jung Kwang-soo, written by Kim Ji-won, produced by Studio Bom and Bamboo Network), which aired on the 10th, the fates of Joo Mi-ran (played by Jang Seo-hui), Kang Hae-ra (played by Joo Sae-byeog), and Ko Eun-seol (played by Jeon Hye-won) were shown intertwining. The first episode's viewership rating recorded 6.5% based on Nielsen Korea's national household data.

From the start of the story, a tense competitive relationship unfolded between Eun-seol and Hae-ra. While Eun-seol, whose outstanding skills were recognized at an art competition awards ceremony, took home the gold prize, Hae-ra—the sole heiress of 'Cheongma Group'—showed intense inferiority and competitiveness while watching Eun-seol rise to the top by surpassing her.

The emotions between the two became even sharper due to Cha Seok-jin (played by Seol Jung-hwan). As the interest of Seok-jin, a school senior and Hae-ra's first love, turned toward Eun-seol, Hae-ra's jealousy grew uncontrollably. Ultimately, Hae-ra, who intentionally damaged Eun-seol's painting, gave a blatant warning to not show interest in Seok-jin. It was a moment where her obsession with not losing what she wants surfaced.

The appearance of Joo Mi-ran, another figure surrounding Cheongma Group, also drew attention. Eun-seol, who attended the art competition celebration party hosted by Hae-ra along with Seok-jin, met Mi-ran, Hae-ra's nanny, for the first time there.

Mi-ran, who entered Cheongma Group by becoming a nanny, appeared to be a gentle person who meticulously cares for Hae-ra on the surface, but underneath lay hidden intentions that are difficult to guess. In particular, as she was seen secretly helping Hae-ra submit someone else's painting instead, curiosity grew regarding her true motives.

However, Hae-ra's misconduct was eventually discovered by her father, Kang Young-hoon (played by Yoo Tae-woong). Hae-ra was banned from participating in art competitions, and her anger was directed back at Eun-seol. As her desire to steal everything Eun-seol possesses, including her talent and love, grew, the conflict between the two rushed in an irreversible direction.

A decisive incident occurred at the end of the broadcast. Hae-ra's attempt to ruin the painting of Eun-seol, who was set to represent the school at the art competition, led to an unexpected accident, causing fierce flames to spread in the art room. The episode ended with the sight of Eun-seol in shock before the flames and the ruined painting, heightening tension over how far the ill fate between the two will continue.

'A Trap Called Desire' rapidly developed the characters' desires from the first episode, adding Mi-ran's hidden motives to the rivalry between Eun-seol and Hae-ra. Jang Seo-hui expressed the dual nature of Joo Mi-ran, who hides her true intentions behind a gentle expression, while Jeon Hye-won and Joo Sae-byeog anchored the drama by portraying the confrontation of two characters becoming entangled in talent, love, jealousy, and obsession.

Following the first broadcast, viewers expressed interest in Jang Seo-hui's return to daily dramas, the fast-paced development, and the actors' performances, showing anticipation for future developments.

Meanwhile, the second episode of the KBS 2TV daily drama 'A Trap Called Desire' will air on the 11th at 7:50 PM.
