Jung Il-woo finds life's turning point on Camino de Santiago after aneurysm diagnosis

Actor Jung Il-woo confessed that his perspective on life changed completely after being diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm. Facing the fear of death brought on by the sudden illness, he found mental healing while walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, an experience he described as a major turning point in his life.

On the 21st, Jung appeared in a video titled "20th Anniversary Debut Actor Jung Il-woo, High Tension with 10-Year Friend Ahn Jae Hyun" on the YouTube channel 'Alttalttalhan Chamgyeon.' During the appearance, he spoke candidly about his emotions at the time of his diagnosis and how his outlook has shifted since.

"As soon as I was diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm, I walked the Camino de Santiago," he said. "At that time, I felt a great sense of anxiety, thinking, 'I don't know when I might die.' That pilgrimage became the catalyst that changed those thoughts significantly."

He recalled that the people he met along the pilgrimage also provided deep comfort.

"Most of the people walking that path had gone through major life changes or experienced truly difficult times," Jung explained. "As we shared our stories, a sense of empathy naturally formed, and I received comfort as well. While it was physically demanding, I felt mentally renewed. It was a time of self-healing."

In particular, he revealed that his experience at the Santiago Cathedral remains an unforgettable moment.

"When you arrive at the Cathedral, a mass for pilgrims is held every Sunday. I burst into tears there without even knowing why," he confessed. "I couldn't explain why the tears were falling, but after crying for a long time, my heart became very peaceful and calm."

He added, "I think everyone needs a time like that in life. The time to look back at myself and organize my thoughts was truly precious."

Jung also detailed how the aneurysm was discovered.

"Before my military enlistment, I had such severe headaches that I visited a hospital, and the doctor recommended a detailed examination," he said. "As a result of the test, a cerebral aneurysm was discovered."

He continued, "I heard that in many cases, there are no specific symptoms, so many people pass it without knowing. I originally had almost no headaches, but they suddenly became severe, so I underwent the examination, and thanks to that, I was able to find it."

A cerebral aneurysm is a condition where part of a blood vessel wall in the brain bulges like a balloon. It requires continuous management and regular follow-up because if it ruptures, it carries the risk of leading to a cerebral hemorrhage.

Jung relieved fans by stating, "I heard that there is no concept of a complete cure for this disease. I have been receiving regular follow-up examinations for a long time, and I am told that my condition is currently stable."

His confession resonated with many, as it went beyond simply overcoming an illness to provide a sincere account of how the fear of death reshaped his attitude toward life.
