With 'Kim Bujang' Above 15%, Film Fans Say It Is Time to Repay So Ji-sub for Supporting Independent Cinema
After SBS drama 'Kim Bujang' topped 15% in just two episodes, film fans are urging viewers to support So Ji-sub in return for his indie-film backing.
SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Kim Bujang,' starring So Ji-sub, has quickly become a ratings force. After only two episodes, the series surpassed 15 percent in viewership ratings according to Nielsen Korea, prompting film fans to say in unison that it is time to repay So Ji-sub for what he has done for cinema.

Recent posts on online film communities have encouraged people to watch 'Kim Bujang,' with reactions such as, 'The chance to repay him has arrived,' 'Let's make So Ganji a huge hit,' and 'I hope he does even better and brings in many more good films.'
The response reflects gratitude for So Ji-sub's long-running support of independent and art-house films. Fans are pointing to the fact that he has invested in such films and has also imported overseas independent and art-house works recognized for their artistic quality. Their calls to watch 'Kim Bujang' carry the meaning that his contribution should now be returned with support.
So Ji-sub previously appeared on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block,' where he said, 'There are more than 30 films I have invested in.' Representative examples include 'Midsommar,' 'Philomena,' and 'The Substance.'
At the time, he also said, 'In terms of profit, it is almost always a loss.' He explained that he accepts those losses because he wants to introduce Korean audiences to a wider range of works.
'Kim Bujang' is a revenge action drama about the most ordinary father in the world who becomes the most dangerous man in the world as he fights to get back his only daughter.
