IU supports 'My Mister' co-star Ahn Seung-gyun despite health issues

Singer and actress IU, despite pausing her activities due to health issues, personally visited a theater to support actor Ahn Seung-gyun, a colleague she met through a past project.

As news of IU visiting a long-time colleague's stage during her own hiatus surfaced, the bond between the two, which began with the 2018 drama 'My Mister', is drawing renewed attention.

On the 7th, Ahn posted a photo taken with IU on his SNS along with a short message: "Always reliable!" In the photo, IU is seen posing side-by-side with Ahn in comfortable attire, wearing a hat and a mask. Another photo included a group shot with the cast members following the performance.

The connection between the two dates back to the 2018 tvN drama 'My Mister'. IU played Lee Ji-an, a character enduring a grueling life, while Ahn played Song Ki-bum, the friend who stays by her side.

In the drama, the two acted together as characters enduring a difficult reality. At the time, Ahn revealed in an interview that he received a lot of help during filming, describing IU as an "older sister who is like an adult."

Although eight years have passed since the drama ended, their connection remains strong. Ahn is currently performing on stage in the play 'The Comeupfunce' in the role of Emilio, and IU personally visited the venue to cheer on her long-time colleague's new challenge.

'The Comeupfunce' opened on the 11th of last month and will run until the 30th. It was a meaningful visit for IU to see a colleague she once shared the screen with now walking a new path as a stage actor.

In particular, the visit garnered significant interest as it coincided with IU's recent health-related hiatus.

IU's agency announced last month that scheduled performances and new album schedules would be postponed as her symptoms of patulous Eustachian tube worsened. IU also explained to fans that she felt she had pushed herself too hard without sufficiently taking care of her condition, noting that experts advised it would be difficult to proceed with performances for the time being.

Nevertheless, IU appeared in public about ten days after her hiatus began, attending the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards as a presenter on the 31st of last month. Appearing on stage alongside Ju Ji-hoon, IU reassured fans by showing a bright side, saying, "I thought I wouldn't be nervous today, but standing here makes me think of last year and my heart is pounding."

Recently, while sharing updates through her SNS, she also drew attention by choosing a song by her former partner Jang Giha as background music. While a single private choice brought past relationships back into the spotlight, what is truly notable in IU's recent actions is her commitment to her long-time colleagues.

Though she has temporarily set aside her own activities due to health issues, she made the effort to attend a colleague's stage. This support for Ahn, whom she worked with in 'My Mister', serves as a testament to an unchanging bond that has endured for eight years.
