The SBS drama 'Good Partner', which heated up living rooms with a peak viewership rating of 18.7%, is returning for Season 2 after two years. However, the lawyer duo of Jang Na-ra and Nam Ji-hyun, who led the success of Season 1, will no longer be seen together. While Jang Na-ra returns as divorce specialist lawyer Cha Eun-gyeong, Kim Hye-yoon joins as the new partner instead of Nam Ji-hyun, signaling changes in character relationships and the direction of the story for Season 2.
'Good Partner 2', which premieres on November 20, depicts the process of Cha Eun-gyeong, the representative lawyer of the divorce law firm 'Ribom', and experienced lawyer Kang Hye-seong working together to solve various cases. While inheriting the strengths of Season 1, which combined the tension of a courtroom drama and character conflicts with the realistic subject of divorce, Season 2 is expected to present different fun through a new combination of characters.
Season 1, broadcast in 2024, received critical acclaim for realistically portraying the conflicts and separations between couples and the raw human nature revealed in the process, centered on the relationship between star divorce lawyer Cha Eun-gyeong and rookie lawyer Han Yu-ri. In particular, the process of the cold and skilled Cha Eun-gyeong and the principle-oriented Han Yu-ri clashing due to different values yet growing through cases was the core viewing point of the work. It recorded a peak viewership rating of 18.7% based on households in the Seoul metropolitan area according to Nielsen Korea, achieving the highest viewership among SBS dramas that year, and Jang Na-ra even won the Grand Prize at the '2024 SBS Drama Awards' for this work.
The biggest change in Season 2 is the partner replacement. While Jang Na-ra continues in the role of Cha Eun-gyeong, Han Yu-ri, played by Nam Ji-hyun, does not return. The actor filling that spot is Kim Hye-yoon. The new character Kang Hye-seong will form the central axis of the drama by solving cases alongside Cha Eun-gyeong. As the clash and cooperation of the opposing personalities shown by Jang Na-ra and Nam Ji-hyun in Season 1 drew responses from viewers, attention is also focused on the new chemistry that Kim Hye-yoon and Jang Na-ra will create.
Above all, Nam Ji-hyun's departure will inevitably come as the biggest change to viewers who remember Season 1. Han Yu-ri was an important figure who went beyond being a simple business partner to Cha Eun-gyeong, making them reveal each other's limits and grow. Therefore, what kind of personality and work style the new partner Kang Hye-seong possesses, what conflicts she will have with Cha Eun-gyeong, and how they will build trust are cited as major variables that will determine the success or failure of Season 2. Whether Kim Hye-yoon can build a relationship different from the existing duo with her own color is also a point to watch.
The teaser poster released on the 16th symbolically shows the changed present of Cha Eun-gyeong. Cha Eun-gyeong, who left Daejeong Law Firm to establish her own law firm 'Ribom', is sitting in her seat with a relaxed expression. However, the seat next to her is empty. To this, the phrase 'Looking for a partner to join the second divorce show' was added, predicting the appearance of a new partner. The contrast between the familiar return of Cha Eun-gyeong and the still unfilled seat increases curiosity about Season 2.
The scope of the story will also expand. While Season 1 focused on the cases occurring during the divorce process and the lawyers' responses, Season 2 is expected to illuminate the lives and choices of clients that continue even after the divorce is over. Given that settling legal relationships does not mean solving all problems in life, the reality after divorce can create other conflicts and dramas. The production team's direction to look into the lives after the cases, rather than just stopping at solving the cases, is expected to add a deeper narrative to the work.
The production team stated, "The second season goes one step further from focusing on divorce cases to pay attention to the lives and choices of clients that continue even after the divorce," and added, "You can look forward to the refreshing activities of Cha Eun-gyeong, who will achieve a second growth with the new partners."
The achievements of Season 1, leaving behind a peak viewership rating of 18.7% and winning the Grand Prize, bring both expectation and burden to Season 2. With the addition of the change in core partners, 'Good Partner 2' has been tasked with persuading viewers with new relationships and stories instead of repeating the familiar success formula. Attention is gathering on what kind of synergy the unchanging presence of Jang Na-ra and the new joining of Kim Hye-yoon will create for the second divorce drama starting on November 20.
