Gwajeup Seyeon Makes Money Amid Drug Investigation—New Excel Broadcast Earns 120 Million Won
Internet broadcaster Gwajeup Seyeon, who is under police investigation for violating the Narcotics Control Act, has returned with a new "Excel broadcast" under her own name instead of pausing her activities. Following an initial broadcast that drew over 20,000 viewers, she has drawn attention again as her daily earnings were recorded at approximately 120 million won.
Internet broadcaster Gwajeup Seyeon, who is undergoing police investigation on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act, has returned with a new Excel broadcast bearing her own name, rather than halting her activities. Following the first broadcast, which attracted more than 20,000 viewers, she drew attention once again as her daily earnings were tallied at approximately 120 million won.
On the 1st, Gwajeup Seyeon first unveiled her new Excel broadcast, 'Rookie Academy', via YouTube Live. On this day, she introduced herself as the main MC and representative, expressing confidence by saying, "Since it was delayed, I have prepared a lot. We will be able to have real fun today." This was the first episode presented after being postponed once from the originally scheduled broadcast.
The interest was immediately reflected in the numbers. It is reported that during the first broadcast, concurrent viewers at one point exceeded 20,000. According to the internet broadcasting revenue tracking site Pung Today, it is known that approximately 120 million won in revenue was generated from this broadcast. Despite the controversy, viewers' interest in the broadcast itself was quite significant.
Gwajeup Seyeon is currently undergoing police investigation for violating the Narcotics Control Act along with her current partner, BJ K (real name Park Jung-gyu). The two were booked on related charges last July, and they are suspected of having used sleeping pills together after K obtained a proxy prescription through an acquaintance.
However, Gwajeup Seyeon's side is strongly denying some of the suspicions surrounding the charges. Last month, through legal representatives, they stated, "There is no fact that [she] obtained a proxy prescription for sleeping pills or was involved in such," and added that there was no fact of illegally possessing or using drugs or marijuana. Regarding the emergency room transport, the explanation provided is that it occurred after consuming Zolpidem, a component of sleeping pills possessed by her partner, in a situation where conflicts with her partner had intensified.
As Gwajeup Seyeon has appeared at the forefront of broadcasting again amidst the ongoing controversy, attention is focused on her future activities. 'Rookie Academy' is an Excel broadcast format where several performers present reactions such as communication and dancing and receive real-time sponsorships. It is a structure where performers' rankings and ranks are displayed according to sponsorship performance, and rewards vary accordingly.
Following the start of a new broadcast while the police investigation is ongoing, Gwajeup Seyeon recorded hundreds of millions of won in revenue from the very first day. Regarding the charges, the results of the investigation must be watched, but at the very least, the fact that her influence in the internet broadcasting market remains formidable has been revealed through the numbers.
