Broadcaster Kim Da-young revealed on her YouTube channel on the 4th that she underwent surgery in late December following a missed miscarriage. The announcement comes as she and husband Bae Seong Jae prepare for the birth of their child this December.

Broadcaster Kim Da-young, who is currently expecting a child, has opened up for the first time about the pain of a missed miscarriage she experienced at the end of last year. After discovering her pregnancy, the couple had shared the news with both families and held a celebration party, only to receive the devastating diagnosis that they could not hear the baby's heartbeat shortly after. The period of loss shared with her husband, Bae Seong Jae, made even the memories of Christmas feel desolate. Kim confessed that both she and her husband suffered great sorrow, expressing a desire to comfort and repay him for his support.

A video titled "Could my husband open his eyes this wide...?" was released on Kim Da-young's YouTube channel, "Dayeong Anaya," on the 4th. During the video, while preparing an event to announce her current pregnancy to Bae Seong Jae, Kim carefully brought up her past experience of pregnancy and miscarriage. It revealed that the couple had to pass through a painful time before reaching their current joyful news.

“In fact, this is not my first pregnancy. I had a missed miscarriage at the end of last year,” Kim recalled, noting that she discovered the pregnancy at four weeks and frequently visited the hospital with her husband. The couple had been unable to hide their joy at the initial news, sharing excitement over ultrasound photos and immediately informing their families. They were so full of anticipation for the new family member that they even held a celebration party and took photos.

However, the happy wait did not last long. Kim shared the explanation she received from medical staff at seven weeks: “They said the heartbeat should have been heard at seven weeks, but it couldn't be heard. They said the gestational sac and yolk sac were there, but the baby could not be seen.” The diagnosis, coming so soon after sharing the news with family, was a shock that was difficult for the couple to bear. Ultimately, Kim underwent surgery in late December, just before Christmas.

Recalling that time, she said, “I really love Christmas, but I spent a very desolate Christmas in 2025.” Although she was able to recover thanks to her husband's meticulous care and the heartfelt support of both families, the emptiness in a corner of her heart did not easily disappear. “My husband was good to me and both families took great care of me, so I recovered, but it was an empty Christmas,” she confessed calmly.

This experience also influenced the background of her starting YouTube activities. “In January, I was in a situation where I really had to do nothing and just rest,” Kim explained. She explained that she started YouTube while looking for something bright and something she could focus on, rather than falling into a dark hole. She sought work she could immerse herself in to regain vitality in her daily life rather than remaining in a sense of loss, and YouTube became the starting point.

Following the miscarriage, she also felt the urge to find the cause within herself. “I heard that in cases of missed miscarriage, the cause often cannot be specified. When a miscarriage occurs, both women and men tend to worry if it might be because of them. We were like that too,” she revealed. Both she and her husband blamed themselves, wondering if they were responsible, but medical staff urged them not to think that way. She reported, “When I asked the doctor to find the cause, they told me never to do that. They strongly urged me not to blame myself, saying the probability is high enough that one-third of pregnant women experience a missed miscarriage.”

In particular, Kim reflected that her husband, Bae Seong Jae, may have suffered deeper sorrow than she did. “I was able to do well without blaming myself, but I think my husband was very upset. He must have had a hard time while not showing it to me,” she said. “I wanted to do this event because I wanted to reward him for that time.” Although she was also wounded, she considered the feelings of her husband, who likely took care of her without showing his own struggle. The reason she wanted to announce this pregnancy in a special way stemmed from a desire to comfort the time they endured together.

She also expressed a change in her thinking regarding the timing of announcing pregnancy news. “After experiencing a miscarriage, I regretted announcing the pregnancy news too early,” Kim said. “If I were to release this video, it would be after the stable period.” Having experienced loss once, it appears that joy and anxiety regarding the new pregnancy inevitably intersect. She revealed the realistic dilemma of wanting to be celebrated while also wanting to be cautious in preparation for any potential situations.

Bae Seong Jae has previously expressed his wishes regarding children on a broadcast. Appearing on MBN and Channel S's "Jun Hyun-moo's Plan 3" last June, he answered a question about his plans for offspring by saying, “I have wanted three daughters since I was young.” When Kim Da-young reacted with surprise, saying, “Three daughters? That's the first I've heard of it,” Bae Seong Jae honestly replied, “Now that I've aged a lot, it doesn't seem easy.” While the conversation drew laughter at the time, interest is now focusing on the process the couple has gone through waiting for a child as it intersects with the revealed miscarriage experience.

Kim Da-young married her senior SBS announcer, Bae Seong Jae, who is 14 years her senior, in May last year. The couple announced their pregnancy last month, and the expected due date is this December. Kim's confession of her past pain ahead of the joyful childbirth goes beyond a simple pregnancy update, looking back at the time of loss and recovery experienced by a couple who underwent a miscarriage. Above all, the fact that the two, who endured sorrow in their own ways without fully revealing it to each other, are now waiting for a new life is particularly moving.
