Trot singer Kim Hye-yeon, well-known to the public for "It's a Snake (Please Hold On)", revealed that she experienced unexpected health problems after undergoing nose revision surgery. The surgery, which she chose simply to refine her appearance a bit more, led to severe sinusitis and breathing difficulties over time, and she confessed to suffering significant emotional distress due to malicious comments claiming she "gets plastic surgery as often as she eats meals."

In a video released on the channel "Kim Ji-sun and Kim Hyo-jin's Geuraejjyeo" on the 30th of last month, Kim Hye-yeon appeared under the theme "Is it okay to get plastic surgery as you get older?". In response to the question of whether one can undergo plastic surgery even as they age, Kim Hye-yeon expressed a positive stance and candidly shared her own experience. Her point was that what is more important than the act of grooming one's appearance is ultimately the balance between the look one desires and one's health.

Kim Hye-yeon revealed that she already had experience with double eyelid surgery 30 years ago. She also had nose surgery a long time ago, but the shape began to change as time passed. She explained the background of choosing revision surgery, saying, "I had my nose done again to look prettier after getting older."

Kim Hye-yeon explained that because plastic surgery technology was not as advanced as it is now, she felt her nose was gradually drooping over time. In particular, she felt her impression changed as her nose appeared longer than her actual face, which ultimately led her to decide on revision surgery. She expressed that even though her nose was not originally long, it kept getting longer, making it look as if she were lying.

The problem was that the surgical result was different from what she had initially expected. Kim Hye-yeon confessed that she wanted a nose that looked slightly sharp yet short, but as a result, her nose became excessively sharp, to the point where her nostrils were visible. The public reaction was even harsher. Online, criticisms such as "she gets plastic surgery as often as she eats meals" were poured out, and Kim Hye-yeon said she was deeply hurt, even though she had only undergone one surgery 30 years ago and one surgery at that time.

The moment a celebrity's appearance is revealed to the public, it easily becomes a subject of evaluation beyond the individual's private domain. Especially in the case of female celebrities, it is not uncommon for evaluations of "managing oneself" and criticisms of "having plastic surgery" to follow simultaneously as they age. Natural aging becomes another reason for evaluation, and if one actively manages their appearance, suspicions of plastic surgery and ridicule follow. Kim Hye-yeon's experience can be seen as a case that was not entirely free from such social double standards surrounding women's appearances.

However, the story Kim Hye-yeon shared that day did not end with the appearance controversy. She stated that two years after the surgery, the issues related to her nose escalated into health problems. She explained that her sinusitis had worsened recently, and she wondered if there had been a problem during the surgery process two years ago as pus had filled her nose. She also stated that she heard that her bone had been floating for two years without properly settling into place.

Ultimately, Kim Hye-yeon's condition worsened to the point where it was difficult to breathe properly through her nose, creating an even more fatal problem for a singer. She confessed, "I have to sing, but when I sing, nasal mucus flows down, so I cannot sing." She revealed that she finally underwent sinusitis surgery and septoplasty at an otolaryngology clinic a month ago.

For a singer who has performed with her voice on stage for a long time, breathing and vocalization mean more than just simple bodily functions. If a choice made for appearance leads to unexpected health difficulties, the burden can affect not only daily life but the profession itself. This is why Kim Hye-yeon's confession goes beyond a simple celebrity's plastic surgery anecdote.

Kim Hye-yeon, who debuted in 1993 with "Foolish Woman", has been active on the trot stage for a long time, producing hits such as "Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan", "A Bold Man", "Republic of Seoul", and "It's a Snake (Please Hold On)". In particular, "It's a Snake (Please Hold On)" became widely known across generations as it was used as the wake-up song for KBS2's "2 Days and 1 Night". Having stood before the public for a long time, she, who could not avoid evaluations of her appearance and image, has now directly revealed the surgical aftereffects and the wounds from malicious comments that were hidden behind the glamorous stage.
