Kim Suk Hoon jokes about eating expired food during Costco trip
Actor Kim Suk Hoon shares how his upbringing near a US military base in Yongsan shaped his unique tastes and affinity for American culture.
Actor Kim Suk Hoon drew laughter by revealing that while he enjoys bulk shopping at Costco, he actually "only eats things past their expiration date" at home. Behind these unusual consumption habits lies a unique upbringing where he was naturally exposed to American culture from a young age.

On the 23rd, the YouTube channel 'My Trash Uncle' released a video titled '[Chuseok Special] The Overspending Uncle's Eyes Spin During Costco Shopping.' Upon entering the store, Kim expressed his excitement, saying, "Going to Costco feels like going to the United States. It smells like America."
However, even for Kim, who was enjoying his shopping, there was one concern: the massive quantity of products. He remarked, "The amount is so large that I can't finish this within the expiration date," and eventually surprised the production crew by stating, "I only eat things past their expiration date." It was his own way of managing the bulk purchases he makes over a long period.
There was a reason why Kim particularly loves American-style marts. He recalled growing up in Yongsan near a US military base, noting that an American even lived next door. He added that his very first friend was also American.
His food culture was also different from others since childhood. Kim confessed, "When everyone else was packing kimbap, I was packing hamburgers. Everyone asked, 'What is this?'" He explained that he had access to cheese, sausages, hamburgers, and ice cream at the US military base PX, items that were difficult to find easily in Korea at the time.
His fashion was also influenced by American culture. He mentioned wearing vintage clothes sent from the United States, saying, "I have long limbs, so I only wore vintage clothes." He continued, "I love American products. Regardless of whether they are good or bad, they feel familiar. It is a culture that was just naturally accepted into my life."
Kim, who says he visits marts first whenever he goes to the United States, showed his affection for them, stating he could "play there all day long." Even while sharing food with the production crew after shopping, he displayed a witty sense of humor. When the crew jokingly asked for a discount, he grumbled but ultimately said he would only take the price of 3 hot dogs, bringing laughter to the scene.
Kim, who married in 2019, has a son and a daughter. Unlike his glamorous image as an actor, he is loved for his frugality and unique lifestyle habits, and this time, he showed another side of his charm through the unexpected combination of 'Costco overspending' and 'expired food.'
