Actors Kim You-jung and Park Jin-young have displayed exceptional couple chemistry, evoking the classical romance of the 1930s. Appearing as characters in a period piece, the two completed an elegant and delicate atmosphere in a pictorial, looking like protagonists from an old film. Beyond praising one another, they offered candid confessions that the other actor significantly influenced their decision to choose the project, heightening expectations for their synergy in the upcoming drama.
Fashion magazine ELLE released the November issue pictorial on the 20th, featuring Kim You-jung and Park Jin-jung, who are working together in the tvN drama '100 Days of Deception.' In this pictorial, the two captured attention with a classic style and unique atmosphere reminiscent of the 1930s. Standing side-by-side against a backdrop that feels as if time has stopped, they simultaneously conveyed modern sophistication and the romance unique to period dramas.
The charm of the pictorial extended beyond mere clothing and settings. The combination of their gazes, natural distance, and restrained expressions revealed the delicate chemistry between the two actors. The scenes stir curiosity regarding the emotions the two characters, who will roam the streets of Keijō in the drama, will face when they meet.
In an interview conducted after the shoot, the two revealed the expectations and trust they held for one another. In '100 Days of Deception,' Kim You-jung plays Ga-gyeong, who transforms from Keijō's best pickpocket into a spy, while Park Jin-young plays Tae-ung, an elite interpreter for the Government-General of Korea. As the two characters, who have lived different lives, become entangled in the drama, interest grew regarding what the actors thought when they first met as co-stars.
Recalling the moment she learned Park Jin-young was her co-star, Kim You-jung said, "I was really, truly happy." She explained, "I enjoyed watching Park Jin-young's previous work, and he felt exactly like the image of Tae-ung I had imagined." This suggests that even from the stage of conceptualizing her character, Park Jin-young fit the image of Tae-ung she had envisioned, leading her expectations for the character to turn into trust in her co-star.
Park Jin-jung also revealed that Kim You-jung's involvement played a major role in his decision to join the project. "When I received the script, Kim You-jung was already set for the role of Ga-gyeong, and that was a very large part of my decision to choose this work," he said. "I felt that if it were Kim You-jung, she could bring out sides of me that I didn't even know, and as expected, she did." This implies that the belief that they could discover new possibilities in each other's acting continued throughout the filming process.
The two also exchanged praises regarding the charms they discovered while acting together. Park Jin-young described Kim You-jung as a "multifaceted person," evaluating her as "always full of vitality and a very flexible person as an actor." Kim You-jung cited "warmth" as her first impression of Park Jin-young. She explained, "He is a very clear person. Whether it is his emotions, atmosphere, or when he conveys words, his heart is delivered to me clearly and distinctly." Their responses, which pointed out specific strengths of one another, conveyed a sense of trust between actors that goes beyond simple synergy.
Reflecting on portraying youth in the 1930s, both actors focused on emotions that transcend eras. Kim You-jung expressed gratitude for playing characters of that time, stating, "What I felt anew was that the concerns held by the youth of that era were not significantly different from those today." She added that all the actors and the production crew filmed with the same heart and sincerity.
Park Jin-jung also viewed that the concerns and love of youth do not differ greatly, even if the era is different. "Youths who worry about how to live and what kind of person they should become," he said, "I felt that even though the era is different, it is ultimately a story about people living, filled with love and camaraderie." He emphasized that it is the role of actors to think deeply about what the characters were feeling and to fully feel and convey that.
Having captured attention with their classical atmosphere, Kim You-jung and Park Jin-jung have heightened anticipation by revealing their mutual trust and serious contemplation regarding the work. Interest is gathering to see what kind of excitement and lingering emotions the story of Ga-gyeong and Tae-ung, set in 1930s Keijō, will leave through the delicate emotional acting of the two actors.
