Lee Ji-hyun worries about her daughter's eating habits and thin teens who think they are overweight
Former Jewelry member Lee Ji-hyun shared her concerns as a mother regarding her daughter's eating habits and expressed worry about the body image perceptions of adolescents.
Lee Ji-hyun, formerly of the group Jewelry, revealed her inner thoughts as a mother while worrying about her daughter's eating habits. She also expressed concern regarding the appearance perceptions of adolescents, mentioning that children of the same age appear excessively thin, yet they themselves believe they are overweight.
On the 15th, Lee Ji-hyun revealed her daily life of preparing meals to match her children's return times through her YouTube channel 'Real-Life Mode Queen Ji-hyun'. Amidst the image of an ordinary mother personally preparing meals for her children, her concern regarding the amount of food her daughter, Seo-yun, eats particularly drew attention.
She said, "My wish is for our Seo-yun to eat a lot." While it is a desire for her to eat well and grow up healthy, she explained that her concern lies in the fact that her daughter does not eat as much as expected. Lee Ji-hyun shared the realistic difficulty she feels while raising her daughter, stating, "Girls don't eat that much."
When the PD, who was conversing with her, said, "When I see students passing by these days, they are so thin," Lee Ji-hyun agreed. She then expressed concern about the appearance perceptions of adolescents, saying, "That's true. And yet, they think they are very fat." In particular, she pointed out, "They grow up watching idols, and you cannot ignore the power of SNS."
The implication is that the appearance of idols exposed to the public and the photos uploaded to social networking services (SNS) can have a significant influence on adolescents in their growing years. One can also read her worry about the atmosphere where individuals consider themselves fat regardless of their actual body type or accept thin bodies as the ideal standard. Lee Ji-hyun's remarks started from a personal concern about her daughter's food intake, but expanded into a topic regarding the reality of the adolescent generation that is sensitive to appearance.
When the PD asked, "You were thin when you were young too," Lee Ji-hyun recalled her childhood. She reminisced, "I have never been particularly interested in food," adding, "It went so far that my father used to say he would give me pocket money if I ate." It is a story of how even her father stepped in to encourage her to eat because she did not eat well.
Following this, Lee Ji-hyun wondered if her daughter's eating habits resemble her own personality and added, "If she doesn't eat any more than this, I think I might tell my daughter, 'I'll give you pocket money, so eat.'" Her joke about potentially saying the same thing to her daughter that she heard from her father contains her wish for her daughter to eat even a little more and grow up healthy.
Lee Ji-hyun, who was loved by the public through her activities with Jewelry, has been steadily revealing her daily life of raising two children through broadcasts and YouTube. In this video, rather than the glamorous image of a celebrity, the realistic concerns of a mother who cares even about her child's food intake were revealed. Especially as adolescents grow up in a social atmosphere that prefers thin bodies, attention is gathering toward her worry that they eat well and grow up healthy.
