The controversy surrounding historical distortion in the film 'The Assassin(s)' is not subsiding. This time, the fallout has reached a YouTube video featuring actor Lee Min-ho hosted by Shin Dong-yup, with the comment section of the video eventually being closed due to intense debates regarding the work.

The controversy surrounding the historical distortion of the film 'The Assassin(s)' is not subsiding easily. This time, the fallout has even reached the YouTube video featuring actor Lee Min-ho hosted by Shin Dong-yup. As the debate surrounding the work intensified, the comment section of the video was eventually closed.
The video titled 'Lee Min-ho, Ryu Hye-young, Kim Dae-myung, the current trend is the tofu-look,' which was released on the YouTube channel 'Zzanbro Shin Dong-yup' on the 14th of last month, has had its comment function suspended as of the 6th. The video displays a notice stating, 'Comments have been temporarily disabled.' The fact that 'The Assassin(s)' was mentioned in the content featuring Lee Min-ho became another spark for the controversy.
At the time, Lee Min-ho personally explained the reason why he chose 'The Assassin(s).' Selecting 'freedom and truth' as the core keywords of the work, he stated that he believes in the power of truth and sincerity, and expressed that he was attracted to the fact that it is a story about people who dig into suspicious incidents to the end according to their convictions.
In particular, Lee Min-ho also showed special affection for the character Han Yeong-il, the youngest reporter in the social affairs department that he played. He explained that the character is someone who already has a stable and guaranteed life but does not feel like they are truly living within it, and only feels alive through the profession of being a reporter. Ultimately, for Lee Min-ho, the character's convictions and the message thrown by the work were important reasons for his casting.
However, as the film became embroiled in the historical distortion controversy, his remarks at the time drew attention again. In the video comments, reactions expressing disappointment at his appearance in the controversial work continued, while opposing views defended him, saying it is excessive to hold the actor responsible for the choice of the work. After intense arguments broke out in the comment section with conflicting opinions, the comment function was eventually suspended.
The repercussions toward Lee Min-ho extended beyond the online sphere to offline events. Previously, Lee Min-ho's scheduled attendance at 'Actors House' at the Busan International Film Festival was canceled, and the team for 'The Assassin(s)' also fully canceled official festival schedules, such as the opening ceremony and outdoor stage greetings. The controversy surrounding the work has spread to a situation where it is shaking the official activities of the actors.
That being said, Lee Min-ho has not directly released a separate position regarding the controversy. As of now, Lee Min-ho's side has not released an official position regarding this historical distortion controversy or the closure of the comment section of the video he appeared in. As the aftermath of the controversy spreads beyond the evaluation of the film to the appearing actors and surrounding content, attention is focused on how far the ripples surrounding 'The Assassin(s)' will continue.
