Moon Se-yoon: "The reason I disappeared from variety shows—trauma after appearing on 'Strong Heart'"
Comedian Moon Se-yoon revealed that he once considered quitting variety shows altogether due to the deep emotional scars he received during his rookie years.
Moon Se-yoon confessed to a moment when he was so deeply hurt after appearing on a variety program in the past that he considered quitting variety shows entirely. Although he is now a veteran traversing various variety shows, he confessed that during his rookie days, there was a time when even sitting in front of a camera was overwhelming.
On the 5th, Moon Se-yoon appeared on the YouTube channel 'Ineoksal' and looked back on his variety show activities during his rookie days. Recalling those times, he spoke honestly, saying, "I really intended to quit variety shows. I was so hurt."
While he felt confident on comedy stages, the situation was completely different when he moved into variety shows. Moon Se-yoon revealed the pressure he felt at the time, saying, "I only did comedy, but when I went on variety shows, I was a rookie there too. I couldn't speak," and "I thought if I missed this opportunity, I wouldn't be able to appear on variety shows again."
In particular, what made things difficult for him were so-called 'group shot variety shows,' where several celebrities appear at once and engage in intense talk exchanges. Moon Se-yoon stated, "'Strong Heart', 'Star Golden Bell', and other group shot variety shows where 15 to 20 celebrities come out and bite and tear at each other caused me the most hurt."
At the time of his appearance on 'Strong Heart', 2NE1 was also there. Moon Se-yoon recalled the situation, saying, "I thought I wasn't intimidated while sitting there, but I ended up drenched in sweat." People around him were so worried that they asked him, "Are you okay?", and Moon Se-yoon confessed, "That made me even more nervous."
The experience of being psychologically intimidated was large enough that he wanted to give up variety show activities itself. He advised his juniors, saying, "If your heart becomes weak, you will fall ill. Do not rush your mindset," and "Going up like stairs, consistency is best."
When Nucksal joked, "Didn't you take a break after that because they didn't call you?", Moon Se-yoon brought laughter by responding, "That's right. I went to the military." Moon Se-yoon, who once contemplated 'quitting variety shows,' has since steadily expanded his territory and has now established himself as a variety veteran that no one can deny.
Oh Seo-yoon reports for Mediafine Global, mainly covering K-Variety and also writing on K-drama, K-pop and K-movie.
