The aftermath of the controversy surrounding YouTuber Park Wi's release of KTX CCTV footage is spreading to his past family content. This time, a video showing his wife Song Ji-eun spending her first holiday with her in-laws after marriage, along with an anecdote about her mother-in-law revealed in a past broadcast, has been resurfaced online. Scenes that passed without much controversy in the past are being reinterpreted with new meanings as they intersect with the current controversy.

Recently, on online communities and SNS, a video titled 'First Chuseok at the In-laws' released on the YouTube channel 'WERACLE' in 2024 is being redistributed. The video captures the appearance of Song Ji-eun, formerly of the group Secret, spending her first holiday at her in-laws after marriage. At the time, it was consumed as ordinary family content about a newlywed couple's first holiday, but following the recent controversy surrounding Park Wi, netizens have been revisiting past videos, leading to different interpretations of every single scene.

The first thing that caught attention was the tableware at the meal. Some netizens pointed out that while Park Wi's parents, Park Wi, and his foster younger sister, actress Yoon So-hee, used the same set of tableware, only Song Ji-eun used different dishes. Additionally, the scene where Park Wi mentioned Yoon So-hee before Song Ji-eun while saying grace, and the scenes where family members repeatedly praised Yoon So-hee, who is from KAIST, were also re-examined.

The scene where only Yoon So-hee was greeted after the video call ended was also mentioned online. Seeing this, some netizens reacted by saying, "I felt it was strange even before," and "From Song Ji-eun's perspective, it could have been upsetting," raising interpretations that Song Ji-eun appeared relatively marginalized within the family. It is as if an ordinary family meal and conversation are being reconstructed into a new narrative through the current controversy.

However, it is difficult to conclude the actual family relationships or the intentions of the members based on only a few scenes. The reason why the types of tableware were different, whether there was a special meaning in the order of names mentioned during the prayer, or the background of praising Yoon So-hee cannot be confirmed through the video alone. In particular, family relationships are an area where it is difficult to judge the whole based only on limited scenes captured on camera. There is a clear gap between the conclusion of 'discrimination' and the 'discomfort' felt when watching specific scenes.

The anecdote about her mother-in-law that Song Ji-eun revealed herself in a past broadcast has also come under scrutiny again. At the time, Song Ji-eun said that her then-future mother-in-law prepared pajamas for her and told her to take any of her cherished clothes that she wanted. At the time of the broadcast, it was accepted as a scene of a family taking good care of a prospective daughter-in-law, but recently, different interpretations have emerged regarding the same action.

Some netizens pointed out, "Wouldn't it have been better to gift new clothes?", while on the other side, opinions were presented that handing over cherished clothes to a daughter-in-law could also be a way of expressing intimacy and affection. Ultimately, it reveals that the same action can have entirely different meanings depending on the context in which it is viewed.

This phenomenon is also linked to the so-called 'reverse run effect,' where a current controversy causes past content to be re-read. Park Wi recently released CCTV footage related to an accident that occurred while disembarking from a KTX, but received criticism regarding concerns over the exposure of a social service agent's personal information and a lack of consideration. Subsequently, he deleted the video along with a public apology and voluntarily resigned from his position as an ambassador for the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

It is necessary to distinguish between criticizing problems that occurred in public activities and demanding responsibility, and finding new suspicions in past family videos. In particular, if scenes where the intentions and specific situations of the parties involved at the time are not confirmed are connected into a single narrative, there is a high possibility that speculation will precede fact-checking. While the collective monitoring and verification of the online community can play a role in holding public figures accountable, a different problem can arise the moment family relationships and private lives are indiscriminately judged in that process.

Ultimately, what is important in this re-summoning is not concluding whether Song Ji-eun actually received discrimination at her in-laws. It is more necessary to pay attention to how ordinary scenes from the past are re-edited and given new meaning after a single controversy occurs. The task of distinguishing between public actions that should be criticized and private relationships that the parties have not explained, and an attitude of acknowledging the distance between suspicion and fact, is being demanded in online public opinion.
