Seong Hyeon-ju expresses gratitude to 22nd class colleagues after losing 8-year-old son
Comedian Seong Hyeon-ju shared the heartbreaking story of her son's passing and expressed her deep gratitude toward her KBS 22nd class colleagues who supported her during her time of grief.
Comedian Seong Hyeon-ju cautiously revealed the final moments of her 8-year-old son who passed away. On the day she said goodbye to her son, who had been in a coma for about 1,000 days following an accident at age 5, colleagues were by Seong Hyeon-ju's side, waiting without a word.
Appearing on the YouTube channel 'Zzanbro Shin Dong-yup' released on the 5th, Seong Hyeon-ju spoke about her first son. She recalled the long period from the time her son had an accident at age 5 until he turned 8, saying, "My child lived for about a thousand days without consciousness."
At the time, Seong Hyeon-ju said she did not want to inform those around her of her difficult situation. She did not share detailed stories even with her close KBS 22nd class colleagues, and she calmly recounted the moment her son passed away on Christmas.
The most heartbreaking scene was the end. Seong Hyeon-ju said that after watching her child's final moments in the hospital room, she personally closed her son's eyes. And the moment she left the hospital room and turned around, her KBS 22nd class colleagues, wearing black padded jackets, were waiting silently in the hallway.
The colleagues did not leave Seong Hyeon-ju's side even during the funeral period. They stayed until the dawn of the day of the funeral procession and accompanied the son on his final journey. It was a moment where just being by her side, without needing to say anything, provided great comfort.
Seong Hyeon-ju expressed her gratitude to her colleagues, saying, "I haven't enjoyed wealth and fame by becoming a comedian, but I think it was a good decision to become a comedian just by gaining good friends." Even after a long time has passed, she has not forgotten the people who protected her that day.
Her consideration for her colleagues was also great. Seong Hyeon-ju said she intentionally did not invite them to first birthday parties or family events, worrying that they might struggle because it would remind them of her son. She then added, "I hope they will invite me comfortably now."
At her second daughter's first birthday party, Yang Sang-guk and Heo Kyung Hwan served as hosts, providing a time to be together with her colleagues again. Amidst the long sorrow of a person who lost a son, the friendship of the colleagues who stayed by her side until the end leaves a deep resonance even after a long time.
