T.O.P ♥ Nana Dating Admission Leads to Cancellation of Fan Exhibition—Successive Reservation Cancellations
A fan exhibition inspired by T.O.P's first solo studio album has been canceled following a wave of reservation cancellations immediately after his dating news with Nana was confirmed.
Immediately following T.O.P's admission of his romantic relationship, unexpected news arrived from his fandom. The fan exhibition, which had been ambitiously prepared with inspiration from T.O.P's first solo studio album, has ultimately been canceled. Although the venue rental and deposit payments had already been completed, it was explained that it became difficult to proceed with the event as scheduled due to a succession of reservation cancellations.
T.O.P's fan page 'CHOIDOT' announced via SNS on the 4th that the 'OFF GRID : NEW GROUND' exhibition, which was scheduled to be held from October 31 to November 1, has been canceled. As it was an event prepared directly by fans, the sudden news of cancellation is expected to cause significant disappointment.
Originally, the organizers had adjusted the scale considering the number of participants in previous years' events and this year's tour schedule. While they prepared based on a total of 300 people over two days, the actual number of applicants remained at about 25% of the expected scale after reservations opened. Nevertheless, the organizers explained that they intended to push forward with the event to keep their promise to the fans who had already made reservations.
The problem arose afterward. As cancellation requests from existing reservation holders continued, the actual expected number of participants plummeted. The organizers eventually decided to cancel, judging that it would be difficult to operate the exhibition in its originally planned form and scale, as the number of participants dropped to about 10–15% of the original daily target.
This exhibition was not a simple fan meeting. Inspired by T.O.P's first solo studio album 'ANOTHER DIMENSION', it was planned as a photo exhibition that would interpret the 11 songs included in the album through different spaces and concepts. Based on a unique worldview of traveling to a new dimension aboard the MOJIRI spacecraft, it was known that experiential spaces and fan participation programs had also been prepared.
In particular, the disappointment grew even larger as it was reported that even overseas fans had planned visits to South Korea. The organizers stated that they hurried to announce the cancellation decision to minimize additional inconvenience to overseas fans who had booked flights and accommodations. As it was an event prepared for a long time, the organizers also apologized to those who had made reservations, saying, "It is very regrettable and our hearts are heavy."
The timing is also peculiar. T.O.P recently admitted to his romantic relationship with actress Nana. The agencies of both sides stated that the two met through a music video shoot and developed into a couple around June. Coincidentally, as the news of the fan exhibition cancellation arrived immediately after the admission of the relationship, various interpretations are bound to emerge online. However, it has not been officially confirmed that the exhibition cancellation is due to the admission of the relationship.
Ultimately, despite the grand concept and long preparation, this exhibition could not overcome the practical barrier of declining fan participation. Especially since the event itself fell through due to the continuous reservation cancellations, interest in the atmosphere of T.O.P's fandom is also growing. Amidst the intense interest surrounding T.O.P following the admission of his relationship, the cancellation of the fan exhibition has created another unexpected issue.
