aespa Claims First Ever No. 1 on Melon's New Global-K Chart
aespa makes history as the first No. 1 on the newly launched Global-K Chart by Melon, Tencent Music, and Line Music, featuring BTS, IVE, and NewJeans.
Kakao Entertainment's music platform Melon launched the 'Global-K Chart' on the 1st in collaboration with China's Tencent Music and Japan's Line Music, and the girl group aespa recorded the very first No. 1 on this chart.
According to Melon on the 1st, aespa dominated the 'Global-K Chart' released at 12 PM that day, reaching No. 1 on the daily, weekly (based on May 25–31), and May monthly charts.
aespa is actively promoting following the release of their 2nd full-length album 'Lemonade' on the 29th of last month during their comeback.
The May monthly chart aggregates usage starting from the 11th, when usage data from the three platforms—Melon, China's Tencent Music, and Japan's Line Music—began to be combined. From June, usage from the 1st to the end of the month will all be tallied. The daily chart is based on usage from the previous 24 hours.
The boy group BTS took 2nd place on the daily, weekly, and monthly charts. 3rd was ILLIT, 4th was CORTIS, 5th was IVE, 6th was NMIXX, 7th was LE SSERAFIM, and 8th was BOYNEXTDOOR.
SEVENTEEN (9th), BLACKPINK (11th), NewJeans (13th), and IU (17th) proved their massive influence by entering the charts at high rankings despite having no official album or single activities in May during the chart's tracking period.
The 'Global-K Chart' is a representative global K-pop chart that ranks the most influential K-pop artists at the moment, based on verified usage from major music platforms in Korea, China, and Japan—the three largest K-pop consumer markets accounting for approximately 20% of the world's population.
