Lee Hyori Revealed as High School Girl in 30-Year-Old Street Interview
Anchor Kwon Soon-pyo shares a nostalgic story about interviewing a young Lee Hyori on the street before her debut with Fin.K.L.
The high school days of singer Lee Hyori are becoming a hot topic once again.
Before her debut, Lee Hyori was interviewed on the street by a broadcaster reporter while she was still a high school student, and that reporter has now brought that past moment back to life.
Kwon Soon-pyo, a former reporter turned anchor who conducted the interview at the time, recently shared a special anecdote about Lee Hyori on MBC Radio's 'Kwon Soon-pyo's News High Kick.'
Kwon Soon-pyo recalled, "About 30 years ago, I had to conduct citizen interviews regarding the economic recession. While looking for interview subjects on the street, I spotted a young woman who looked smart and seemed to have a sense of awareness, so I proceeded with the interview."
He said, "After the broadcast, I had completely forgotten about it. However, about 20 years later, a junior colleague sent me a clip saying, 'This video is trending lately.'"
He continued, "I was startled when I received the video. The interviewee was Lee Hyori. Since it was before Lee Hyori's debut, I had no idea at the time. Even after Fin.K.L debuted, I had forgotten the fact that I had interviewed her. Why did I interview her then? She looked so beautiful and smart. Even though she seemed to be at an age where she had just graduated from high school, she looked very pure."
He also noted, "When doing street interviews, there is a high probability of failure if you do it with just anyone. You have to quickly find someone who looks like they can speak well, and I had a bit of an instinct for that. Looking at the video again later, I thought, 'Ah, that's why I chose that person,'" reaffirming his own sense of intuition.
In the video, Kwon Soon-pyo asked, "How do you predict the economic situation for the new year?" and Lee Hyori answered without hesitation, "Since the economy was so bad last year, I think it might improve this year."
Lee Hyori gave her signature eye smile. Since she debuted with Fin.K.L in 1998, this video predates that.
