The article states that the Samsung Electronics semiconductor (DS) division pays a special management performance bonus of 50% even to employees undergoing academic training. This measure was introduced as a supplementary policy as an increasing number of employees considered abandoning their training midway to receive the massive performance bonuses. Due to this measure, Hong Seong-gi, who attended a semiconductor graduate school, has also become eligible for the bonus.

A semiconductor engineer, he announced that he was promoted to department manager last March, after 17 years with the company. At that time, as part of the company's training program, he pursued a master's degree in Semiconductor Display Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University. He stated, "I receive my monthly salary, and the company also supports my tuition."

As he finishes this semester, he will graduate from graduate school while also being eligible for the performance bonus.
