Oh Sang Jin reveals second son's critical 3-day battle in ICU

Broadcaster Oh Sang Jin has opened up about the harrowing experience of his second son being hospitalized immediately after birth, revealing the desperation he felt as a parent. He confessed that in those moments when he could do nothing for his child, all he could do was pray.

On the 13th, KBS2 released a preview for 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant' featuring the story of Oh's family.

In the video, Oh reacted sensitively when he saw a father holding and shaking his 50-day-old second son, Suho, warning, "You shouldn't shake him on purpose." When the father joked, "Are you anxious that I might do something to your son?" Oh could not hide his worried expression, replying, "Just in case something happens."

There was a reason for Oh's overly cautious behavior toward his son. He revealed, "As soon as Suho was born, he had jaundice and some other symptoms, so he was hospitalized for about a week."

The memory of that time remains a profound shock to Oh and his wife, Kim So Young.

"We went through so much mental anguish back then, and I realized nothing else really mattered," Oh said. "Both So Young and I felt very strongly that as long as the child is healthy, nothing else is needed."

His father also recalled the anxious situation. "Sang Jin doesn't talk about these things much," he said, noting that he had heard about the situation from Kim So Young.

He continued, "They said we had to watch him for about 3 days. During those 3 days, the urge to go to the hospital kept rising. I wanted to go immediately."

However, the parents' options were limited; they had no choice but to wait for the child's condition to improve.

He recalled the moment the tension broke: "After 3 days passed, Sang Jin said, 'Dad, they say Suho is okay.' I think only then could I finally relax."

Hearing this, Lee Yeon Bok remarked, "When a baby is sick, there is nothing parents can do for them," to which Oh nodded, adding, "There really was nothing to do but pray."

The helplessness parents feel when a child is ill is incomparable to almost any other experience. Because they cannot act on the child's behalf or suffer in their place, they must simply wait for the child to be safe. Oh's calm confession clearly reflected the fear and desperation he felt at the time.

Fortunately, Suho completed his treatment successfully and recovered. Oh smiled brightly, stating, "He has fully recovered now. The treatment went perfectly well without any issues. There are no problems at all."

While his father is now able to smile while holding his grandson, the memories of that time remain vivid for Oh. His cautious attitude toward his 50-day-old son appears to stem directly from that experience.

Oh's wife, Kim So Young, gave birth to their second son on April 3 after approximately 7 hours of labor. Following their first daughter, the couple is now the parent of two children.
