Go Doo-shim reveals openness to remarriage 28 years after divorce

Actress Go Doo-shim shares her honest views on marriage and remarriage while advising Im Won Hee and Kim Kwang Kyu on SBS's My Little Old Boy.

Actress Go Doo-shim has expressed an openness toward remarriage, stating, “I have no intention of living alone,” even 28 years after her divorce. Having served as a beloved national actress for many years, she has shared various stories about family and life. Now, she is drawing attention by candidly revealing her own views on marriage while encouraging her juniors to marry.

“I have no intention of living alone” — Go Doo-shim reveals her true feelings 28 years after her divorce

In the episode of SBS's 'My Little Old Boy' airing on the 30th, Go meets Im Won Hee and Kim Kwang Kyu, treats them to a meal she prepared with Jeju Island cuisine, and offers blunt advice regarding their single lives.

During a recent recording, Im and Kim showed a strange sense of rivalry while exercising together. Following Kim's suggestion, the two participated in Pilates, where they engaged in a battle of pride while being conscious of each other, and even showed unexpected chemistry by reenacting a scene from the movie 'Spider-Man.'

After the two moved to Im's house, Go appeared. Having always picked Im and Kim as 'pitiful juniors I want to buy food for,' Go said she wanted to meet them in person, adding, “I know how it feels to live alone.”

While serving a meal carefully prepared with Jeju Island food, Go did not hide her characteristic blunt way of speaking toward her juniors. Looking at the two, she made the set erupt in laughter by urging them to marry, saying, “You are both so handsome, why can't you get married?” and “What are you singles going to do?”

In particular, the atmosphere shifted with a question about remarriage. When Im asked Go, “Do you have no intention of remarrying?” she reportedly replied, “I have no intention of living alone.”

Go's remark goes beyond a simple joke for television; it connects to her life philosophy of having lived alone for many years. Go married a businessman in 1976 and had one son and one daughter. After maintaining her marriage for 22 years, she divorced in 1998. Since then, she has continued her career, maintaining her territory as an actress for nearly 28 years.

Notably, Go is an actress who has consistently revealed her identity as being from Jeju and her attachment to family through her works and broadcasts. Since her debut in the 1970s, she has portrayed characters representing mothers, wives, and working women in numerous works, establishing herself as an actress who symbolizes the 'face of a mother' in Korean society. It is striking that she, in her real life, has not closed the possibility of meeting a new partner.

Along with Go's views on remarriage, this episode also focuses on the lonely single lives of Im and Kim. The two formed a sense of empathy regarding dating, confessing that even when they went on blind dates, they rarely led to good results.

As both revealed that they "hardly even have female friends," a surprise phone call was connected to Im's only female acquaintance. Upon hearing the conversation, Kim expressed subtle jealousy, saying, “I'm closer to her,” and even caused a stir on set by making an unexpected confession: “I'll hold her hand first someday.”

Interest is also mounting regarding the identity of this person, as it was revealed that Im's female acquaintance calls Im 'Sunbaenim' (senior) and Kim 'Oppa.'

Go's concern for her juniors' marriage, while remaining open to the possibility of her own remarriage, can be read as a message that one does not necessarily have to accept 'living alone' as the final state of old age. This is even more meaningful as it is a statement from someone who has experienced a long marriage, divorce, and an independent life as an actress.

The pleasant meeting between Go, Im, and Kim will be revealed on SBS's 'My Little Old Boy,' airing at 9 PM on the 30th.
