Magician Lee Eun-gyeol shared a poignant memory of the late comedian Jeon Yoo-sung, revealing a photo of the deceased's final outing in a wheelchair just one month before his passing.
During a special tribute broadcast on KBS2's 'Immortal Songs' on September 7, magician Lee Eun-gyeol revealed a photo of the late comedian Jeon Yoo-sung's final outing in a wheelchair, which took place in Namwon one month before the comedian passed away at age 76.
Magician Lee Eun-gyeol has revealed a special connection with the late comedian Jeon Yoo-sung, sharing a photo of the deceased's final outing. The image, captured just one month before his death, shows the back of Jeon Yoo-sung sitting in a wheelchair while looking out at green mountains, a moment that has left viewers deeply moved. Despite his weakened physical condition, the late comedian's warm heart was revealed as he made the effort to come outside to guide his junior and offer a cup of tea.
The September 7 broadcast of KBS2's 'Immortal Songs' was presented as a "Jeon Yoo-sung Special." Lee Eun-gyeol appeared on the stage to perform magic as a tribute to the late comedian with whom he shared a special bond. MC Lee Chan-won noted that Lee Eun-gyeol had expressed a strong desire to appear, saying he could not be left out of this special episode, to which Lee Eun-gyeol expressed profound respect and gratitude for the deceased.
Lee Eun-gyeol recalled, "There are magic competitions in Korea. Thanks to the teacher, we were able to hold the first Korean magic competition through his sponsorship." He continued, "He continuously provided great help to the magic industry after that, and especially to me, he provided many opportunities, so I absolutely could not miss this. I feel as though I am appearing here on his behalf." He explained his participation in the memorial stage by emphasizing Jeon Yoo-sung's role in providing unsparing support for the development of the Korean magic community.
The bond between the two extended beyond the sponsorship of magic competitions. When Kim Jun-hyun asked about anecdotes of Lee Eun-gyeol traveling abroad with Jeon Yoo-sung, Lee recalled a moment when the deceased called him out of the blue with an unexpected proposal. "One day, he called me out of nowhere and asked, 'Build a hospital in the Himalayas. Do you want to do the opening?'" Lee said. Jeon Yoo-sung did indeed build a hospital in the Himalayas, and Lee Eun-gyeol visited the location for a special experience with him.
The memory Lee Eun-gyeol cherishes most is the moment he met Jeon Yoo-sung in Namwon one month before the comedian passed away. "I actually went down to Namwon one month before the teacher passed away. I went down with a junior magician, and when we tried to visit his house, he made a great effort to come out to meet us," he revealed. It was reported that despite his poor health, the late comedian made the effort to go outside because his juniors had come to visit.
In Namwon, Jeon Yoo-sung took meticulous care of Lee Eun-gyeol's group by recommending local restaurants and suggesting they dip their feet in the waters of Jirisan Mountain. "We went to have a cup of tea because the tea there was said to be good. It was a very short time, but I think that moment will stay with me for my whole life," Lee recalled. Though the meeting was brief, the comedian's consideration and warmth toward his junior remained a deep memory.
Lee Eun-gyeol revealed a photo during the broadcast that a junior magician had secretly taken at the time. "My junior secretly took a photo of his back at that time. I thought it would be good to talk about it using that photo," he said. He then shared a story he later heard from the deceased's daughter, stating, "I heard that it was his last outing," which brought a solemn atmosphere to the cast. Lee added, "I feel both sorry and grateful because it seems he took care of us because I had come with such difficulty."
The released photo shows Lee Eun-gyeol and Jeon Yoo-sung sitting side-by-side on a grassy field while looking at the green mountains. While Jeon Yoo-sung appears thinner in the wheelchair, his back as he spends time with his junior while looking at nature creates a peaceful and warm atmosphere. Looking at the photo, Shin Dong-yup expressed his longing for the deceased, exclaiming, "The view from the back is so beautiful." Even without grand stage production or special directing, the moment of the final outing left a deep resonance.
Jeon Yoo-sung passed away on September 25 last year at Jeonbuk National University Hospital, where he was hospitalized due to worsening symptoms of pneumothorax. He was 76 years old. At the time, it was reported that he refused life-sustaining treatment and passed away after having many conversations with his children. As a pioneer of the Korean comedy industry and a reliable pillar for junior artists, Jeon Yoo-sung's final outing a month before his death, made with difficulty for his junior, serves as a reminder of the warm connections and consideration he left behind.
