Comedian Jung Jong Chul heads to Canada with son accepted to 5 top universities
Comedian Jung Jong Chul and wife Hwang Gyu Rim travel to Vancouver to celebrate their son's admission to five prestigious Canadian universities.
Comedian Jung Jong Chul has shared joyful moments of a family trip to Vancouver with his son, who is preparing to enroll in a prestigious Canadian university. For the parents, who have supported their son throughout his years as an international student, this trip is more than just a vacation; it is a meaningful milestone shared with their son ahead of his new academic chapter.

On the 27th, Jung's wife, Hwang Gyu Rim, posted photos taken at the airport on her SNS with the caption, "Dad is even more excited." In the photos, Jung is seen with a bright expression, giving a thumbs-up next to his son. Hwang and Jung wore matching designer T-shirts, and the family traveled to Canada in business class.
Hwang also shared glimpses of their daily life after arriving in Vancouver on the 28th. The family spent relaxing time in accommodations with beautiful views of Vancouver, enjoying meals and grocery shopping. In particular, Jung's constant smiling while looking at his son clearly reflected the pride of parents seeing their child complete a long period of studying abroad to enter university.
The trip to Canada is garnering significant attention due to the extraordinary academic achievements of their son, Si-hoo. Jung previously announced via SNS that Si-hoo moved to Vancouver during his first year of high school, and after continuing his studies there, he was simultaneously accepted into five major Canadian universities.
The schools Si-hoo was accepted to include St. George's School, the University of British Columbia (UBC), McMaster University, Western University, and Simon Fraser University. His academic success drew even more attention as he reportedly received scholarship offers from both McMaster University and Western University.
While adapting to the admission standards and educational systems in Canada, Si-hoo also achieved exceptional results during his high school graduation. In July, Jung expressed immense pride, sharing that his son graduated with the school's highest academic award.
Ahead of his university entrance, Si-hoo briefly visited Korea. Jung mentioned that his son returned to Korea to spend about two months with the family before heading back to Canada to prepare for his new academic journey in Vancouver.
This trip holds special meaning for the family, who have lived abroad for an extended period for their child's education. Studying abroad during adolescence is a significant challenge for both the student and the family, requiring adaptation to new languages, academics, and social environments. Having successfully navigated this process and secured offers from multiple prestigious institutions, the emotions felt by Jung and Hwang are profound.
Jung has consistently shared his son's achievements through SNS. Having once brought laughter to the public through his "Okdongja" character, he is now showing a different side, revealing his life as a father raising three children alongside his career as a broadcaster.
Jung and Hwang married in 2006 and have one son and two daughters. As Si-hoo stands at the threshold of his university career, his parents continue to cheer him on for his next journey.
The family photos released in Vancouver are less a record of a glamorous trip and more a capture of the joy felt by parents watching their son successfully conclude his international schooling and enter a new stage of life. Much like Jung's cheerful expression, the pride of a father welcoming his son's new beginning is fully on display.
