Kim Hyun-chul jokes about wedding gift regrets for Yoo Jae-suk
Comedian Kim Hyun-chul shared humorous anecdotes on JTBC's 'Knowing Bros' regarding the wedding gift amounts he gave to MCs Yoo Jae-suk and Kang Ho-dong, ultimately expressing regret that he didn't give Yoo even more after receiving a larger gift from him in return.
During a broadcast of 'Knowing Bros' on the 7th, comedian Kim Hyun-chul joked that he should have given Yoo Jae-suk 1 million won for his wedding. Kim previously gave Yoo 500,000 won but expressed regret after seeing the much larger gift Yoo provided at his own wedding.

Comedian Kim Hyun-chul has shared the story of how he gave different amounts of wedding gift money to national MCs Yoo Jae-suk and Kang Ho-dong. While he gave as much as 500,000 won to Yoo Jae-suk, he candidly confessed that he received no special treatment in return and jokingly wished he could have had part of the money refunded. However, upon learning that Yoo Jae-suk gave a much larger wedding gift at his own wedding, Kim expressed a late regret, jokingly wishing he had topped his gift up to 1 million won instead.
During the broadcast of the JTBC entertainment program 'Knowing Bros' on the 7th, guests including Kim Hyun-chul, Lee Ji-hyun, and Kim Young-hee appeared to share various stories. During the episode, Kim Hyun-chul drew attention by mentioning that he is the same age as Kang Ho-dong, born in 1970, but confessed that he feels "very uncomfortable" around him. He explained that because they had not worked together much, it was difficult to act familiarly despite being the same age.
Kim revealed that during a time when he frequently attended family and social events, he had established his own principles for wedding gift amounts. "A close PD gets 100,000 won, a main writer gets 50,000 won, and the writers below them get 30,000 won," he explained, noting that he determined the amounts based on the relationship and professional rank rather than giving a uniform amount.
Under these criteria, Kang Ho-dong's wedding was an exception. Kim stated that he gave 150,000 won to Kang, a higher amount than usual, because he wanted to make a good impression. "I thought I should show him respect, so I did 150,000 won," he confessed, revealing his calculation at the time: "200,000 won was a burden, but 150,000 won was manageable." Despite being the same age, he used this amount as a way to show sincerity to Kang, whom he found psychologically difficult to treat comfortably.
However, the scale of the gift increased for Yoo Jae-suk's wedding. Kim surprised the cast by revealing he gave 500,000 won to Yoo Jae-suk. When Kang Ho-dong appeared to show slight disappointment, Kim explained, "It was a time when Jae-suk was doing many programs, so I gave a lot to make a good impression." He did not hide that his decision to give more to the highly active Yoo Jae-suk was influenced by expectations regarding their future professional relationship.
The issue arose after the event. Kim claimed that despite giving a significant amount of 500,000 won to Yoo Jae-suk, he enjoyed no special benefits. "Since there were no benefits, I feel like about 300,000 won should have been refunded. I'm not saying this just to be funny," he said, causing laughter in the studio. He had expected attention and treatment proportional to the gift amount, but because Yoo Jae-suk is naturally kind to everyone, he treated Kim the same as anyone else.
Kim repeatedly expressed his disappointment by comparing the attitudes of Kang Ho-dong and Yoo Jae-suk. He explained that after giving 150,000 won, Kang Ho-dong would greet him warmly and find him funny when they met on shows like 'X-Man', whereas Yoo Jae-suk, who he gave 500,000 won to, made no special distinction because he is close to so many people. "I am a person who gave 500,000 won," he added, humorously expressing his desire for the special attention he felt matched his gift amount.
That said, he did not actually demand a partial refund from Yoo Jae-suk. Kim stated that while he could not bring it up at the time, his feelings changed after seeing the sincerity Yoo Jae-suk showed at his own wedding. "I couldn't say anything then, but I was grateful that he gave a wedding gift several times larger at my wedding," he said, noting his gratitude for the much larger gift Yoo used to celebrate his marriage.
Kim concluded by adding, "If I had known it would be like this, I feel like I should have topped it up to 1 million won back then." His past sentiment of wanting a 300,000 won refund from a 500,000 won gift had turned into a regret of not giving 1 million won upon facing Yoo Jae-suk's much larger gift. Kim's honest confession regarding the calculations, expectations, and belated gratitude surrounding the wedding gift amounts provided another moment of laughter.
