Kim Seung-hyeon's family YouTube revenue plummets to 1 million won

Actor Kim Seung-hyeon's family reveals how their YouTube channel's monthly revenue dropped from 10 million won to 1 million won.

The monthly income of the YouTube channel operated by actor Kim Seung-hyeon's family has reportedly decreased significantly compared to its peak. As earnings that once reached 10 million won per month have fallen to the 1 million won range, the realistic limitations of transitioning family variety content from broadcast television to YouTube have been exposed.

Kim Seung-hyun's Family YouTube Revenue Plummets from 10 Million to 1 Million Won per Month

On the 23rd, a video titled 'Actually, regarding Ok-ja and Eon-jung...' was released on the YouTube channel 'Gwangsan Kim Family.' Kim Seung-hwan, Kim Seung-hyeon's brother, appeared alongside an editor to candidly reveal the background of starting the family YouTube channel, the management process, and the scale of their earnings.

According to Kim, during the channel's heyday, he personally led the content planning and filming. However, both the performers and the production crew are currently balancing their respective primary careers, which has reduced the time they can dedicate to operating the channel.

“I have my own main job, and the editor has a separate job as well. My brother's top priority is his acting work,” he said. “Currently, no one on our channel makes YouTube their primary profession. Because of that, I feel the channel has become scattered.”

The drop in revenue was substantial. When the editor mentioned that monthly income had previously reached 10 million won, Kim admitted to it, stating, “When we were making a lot at first, there was even a video where we bragged about earning 10 million won.”

However, current monthly income is at the 1 million won level. Kim explained, “Actually, making 1 million won right now is performing quite well. Before that, it was in the hundreds of thousands of won range.” A simple comparison to their peak shows that YouTube advertising and content revenue has decreased to at most one-tenth of its former level.

This demonstrates that content based on the daily lives of a celebrity's family does not guarantee stable revenue. While the recognition and buzz generated during broadcast appearances can be maintained on online platforms for a certain period, views and revenue are likely to decline if not supported by continuous content production and differentiated planning.

The family also shared their feelings regarding malicious comments directed at them. Regarding certain comments criticizing the appearance of Kim's wife, Jang Jeong-yun, and daughter, Ri-yun, the editor explained that there is a difference between their actual appearance and what appears on camera.

Regarding Jang, the editor said, “If you see her in person, she has a small face and is tall, so her proportions are great,” noting that due to filming angles and camera lens characteristics, she may look different on screen than she does in reality.

The editor also expressed discomfort regarding malicious comments aimed at Ri-yun. Stating that they have encountered many children through children's programming, the editor said, “You get the feeling just by looking that she is a pretty child, and Ri-yun is truly beautiful in person.” They added, “It's to the point where I think she inherited her mother and father's looks exactly,” expressing that even as a non-family member, they felt angry upon seeing the comments.

Kim's family built public recognition by revealing their daily lives, conflicts, and reconciliation processes through KBS2's 'Mr. House Husband.' Since then, they have moved away from traditional broadcasting to continue their family content through the YouTube channel 'Gwangsan Kim Family.'

However, converting the high buzz of a broadcast show into continuous revenue on an online platform has proven difficult. The confession that a channel that once recorded 10 million won per month is now stuck at the 1 million won range highlights the cold reality of the YouTube market, where even celebrity family content requires consistent production capabilities and fresh narratives.
