Kim Seung Soo, 55, reveals why his marriage plans failed

Actor Kim Seung Soo has opened up about marriage, a topic he has seldom discussed in the past. He revealed that while there were moments when he was seriously determined to marry, it was not something that could be achieved by his decision alone. Ultimately, the timing and circumstances of his partners did not align, preventing marriage from becoming a reality.

On the 26th, MBN's Sokpuri Show Dongchimi featured guests Baek Il Seob, Cho Yeong Nam, Kim Seung Soo, Lim Ye Jin, and Lee Kyung Sil, who shared stories about marriage, traditional holidays, and living alone. Kim, who is 55 years old, revealed that he has spent most of his holidays working.

“Because I have so much work, I often filmed dramas even during the holidays,” Kim said. “I spent most of that time working away from home.” Lee Kyung Sil, who has worked with him before, shared, “When I personally asked him why on earth he didn't have a girlfriend, he said he didn't have time to meet one.”

Cho Yeong Nam found this hard to believe. When Kim insisted, “I really don't have one,” Cho questioned the reason for his single status, suggesting, “Then there must be something lacking.” He expressed curiosity as to why Kim remained single despite likely hearing countless suggestions to marry.

At that point, Kim shared an unexpected story. “There were moments when I decided to get married,” he said. “But it wasn't something that could be decided by me alone.” He continued, “I wanted to do it, but perhaps the other person was not in a position to marry. After that, the timing didn't work out, and I also used being busy with work as an excuse.”

The confession revealed that it was not a lack of intention, but rather that the circumstances and timing of his partners did not match. Subsequently, his busy professional life became a reason for delaying marriage. It was the first time Kim, long known as a bachelor, specifically revealed his inner thoughts regarding marriage.

Cho Yeong Nam shared his view on dating, saying, “You have to make constant efforts,” which prompted Lim Ye Jin to joke, “You're a womanizer,” drawing laughter. Baek Il Seob offered different advice from Cho, suggesting that instead of lingering, he should look for examples of celebrities who married later in life.

For Kim, who has been active in acting for decades, marriage was not simply something he chose to avoid, but something he had actually intended to pursue. Now that he is 55, attention is focused on whether he will meet someone special enough to consider marriage again.
