Comedian Kim Won-hyo reveals 200 million won investment loss and marriage crisis
Comedian Kim Won-hyo revealed on the KBS2 show 'Malja Show' that he faced a major marital crisis with his wife, Sim Jin-hwa, after losing his entire personal savings of 200 million won through an unfamiliar investment.
During a broadcast of KBS2's 'Malja Show' on the 2nd, comedian Kim Won-hyo disclosed that he lost his personal fortune of 200 million won through unfamiliar stock investments, an incident that nearly led to divorce from his wife Sim Jin-hwa.
Comedian Kim Won-hyo has revealed a story of how he lost his entire personal fortune of 200 million won due to reckless investment, leading to the greatest crisis in his marriage with wife Sim Jin-hwa. Even for the couple, who are known for their strong bond, there was a serious moment where they considered divorce. In particular, the fact that he broke his wife's trust felt like a greater fear to Kim Won-hyo than the loss of money itself.
During the broadcast of KBS2's 'Malja Show' on the 2nd, Kim Won-hyo recalled the crisis in his marriage, disclosing the incident where he almost divorced Sim Jin-hwa. He explained that while their life had been proceeding smoothly through business, unexpected problems arose, stating, "Actually, there was no such crisis in our house. But a crisis arises when a person does something they don't usually do."
The cause of the crisis, as cited by Kim Won-hyo, was investing in a field he was unfamiliar with. He revealed that while everything was going well with his business, he once invested in an area he didn't know well, such as stocks, and "at that time, my entire fortune was wiped out." His stable economic foundation collapsed in an instant.
Regarding past reports that used the expression "total fortune of 0 won," Kim Won-hyo clarified the exact meaning. He explained, "It didn't mean the entire fortune of our household, but that my own personal fortune became 0 won." When asked about the actual scale of the loss, he replied, "It was two large bills, about 200 million won." It was a significant amount to be dismissed as a simple investment failure.
What made Kim Won-hyo more nervous than the moment he lost the money was the reaction of his wife, Sim Jin-hwa. Recalling the time, he said, "It is actually better when a person gets angry. Not getting angry is scarier. You don't know what state they might be in." The reason silence was more terrifying than intense anger was that he knew the trust built between the couple over time had been shaken.
Kim Won-hyo clearly admitted his mistake. He said, "Of course, I was wrong. My wife has lived trusting me, and that trust was broken." He explained that while the investment failure itself was a problem, he felt a heavy responsibility because he had disappointed his wife, who had trusted him and built a life with him.
However, the crisis did not immediately lead to a separation. Kim Won-hyo added, "What matters is how you handle things after a mistake," and "Since then, I have worked harder and filled the gaps, so we are barely getting by." He explained that he reconnected the relationship through his subsequent actions and efforts to restore the broken trust. His words contained a realistic realization of how difficult it is to reverse once trust is broken.
Married in 2011, Kim Won-hyo and Sim Jin-hwa have been a married couple for 15 years this year. Even for the two, who have shown a cheerful and affectionate daily life on broadcasts, there was a crisis of economic failure and a crack in trust. Kim Won-hyo's confession drew attention by revealing that in marriage, trust in one another can be harder to recover than money.
