Jung Soo-young, "Even if I regret it, I'd just go for it" regarding premarital unplanned pregnancy
Actress Jung Soo-young candidly shared her experience of premarital pregnancy and offered realistic advice to juniors contemplating childbirth during an appearance on the KBS2 variety show 'Malja Show'.
Actress Jung Soo-young candidly revealed that she had a child through premarital pregnancy. She drew attention by sharing her life philosophy with juniors contemplating childbirth, stating, "Even if I regret it, I'd rather just go for it and then regret it." From her experience of weight increasing up to 80kg due to pregnancy-related nausea to realistic advice for mothers of many children, her honest stories surrounding marriage and childbirth evoked empathy.
Jung Soo-young appeared on the KBS2 variety program 'Malja Show' broadcast on the 12th, where she disclosed her experiences with marriage and childbirth. The broadcast was themed around 'A Woman's Life,' and featured a segment called 'Yunan (Extraordinary) Contest' where special experiences during the parenting process were shared. When asked what advice she usually gives to juniors who are debating whether to have children, Jung Soo-young revealed her firm thoughts.
She said, "I am certain. I never recommend it to those who intend to live as a DINK (Double Income, No Kids). To those who are debating, you should definitely have them." She continued, "I am the type to just go for it and regret it later, even with marriage and children. I had my baby as a 'fast-track scandal' (unplanned pregnancy)." While actively encouraging childbirth, her honest life philosophy drew attention because she did not force the same decision on those who chose not to have children.
She also spoke without reservation about the physical changes she experienced during pregnancy. Jung Soo-young stated, "I suffered from pregnancy-related nausea and gained up to 80kg. The weight I gained then still hasn't come off." She explained that her weight increased significantly through pregnancy and childbirth, and the physical changes have continued since. Unlike stories about childbirth that often focus on the joy of gaining a child, she honestly revealed the realistic difficulties experienced during the pregnancy process.
In the broadcast, a viewer's concern was also introduced: a woman pregnant with her fifth child whose husband refuses to undergo a vasectomy. In response, Jung Soo-young reacted by saying, "He is a patriot. I respect him," while also pointing out the burden that a mother of many children must bear. She emphasized the impact of pregnancy and childbirth on a woman's body, saying, "If you have five children, your body gets heavily damaged. You are giving your body up to give birth to children."
A request toward her husband followed. Jung Soo-young said, "He probably loves me a lot now, but I hope he pours even more love and attention on me in the future." This is interpreted as meaning that the husband should look after and consider his wife more meticulously, considering the weight that a woman's body and daily life must carry in the process of carrying and raising five children. It was a remark that prompted people to think about the sacrifice and responsibility that follows, rather than viewing having many children simply as a blessing or a great feat.
In the 'Yunan Contest,' various stories from parents who were excessively immersed in parenting were also revealed. Comedian Ko Eun-young confessed that while insisting on French-style sleep training, she heard from her husband, "Are we French? Are we Korean!" Other stories included performing a tub clean of the washing machine because child's clothes and the husband's socks were washed together, and making formula using water in which vegetables were boiled. In particular, a story about once sucking a child's runny nose directly with her mouth was selected as the #1 story in the 'Yunan Contest,' bringing laughter.
Host Kim Yeong-hui reflected on the relationship between parents and children, recalling a mother who prioritized her own life over her children. She said, "My mother put herself first above anyone else," and "In the past, I wondered if she was a stepmother, but looking back as time passes, parents who lived so self-centeredly do not expect or hope for anything from their children." She continued, "Before you are someone's mother, wife, or husband, you are yourself with a three-letter name. Please enjoy your own life to your heart's content."
From choices surrounding marriage and childbirth to the ridiculous incidents occurring during the parenting process, the broadcast illuminated the individual lives that are easily hidden behind the role of a parent. Jung Soo-young's honest confession of premarital pregnancy and her realistic advice for mothers of many children, along with Kim Yeong-hui's message about one's own life, served as a reminder that respecting one's own life and body is just as important as caring for a family.
