Profiler Kwon Il-yong to serve as consultant for The Roundup 5
South Korea's first profiler Kwon Il-yong revealed he will not be appearing as an actor in the upcoming film 'The Roundup 5,' opting instead to serve as an advisor.
Former profiler Kwon Il-yong will not appear as an actor in the upcoming film The Roundup 5, instead providing consultation for the sequel. During a YouTube broadcast released on the 21st, Kwon revealed that lead actor and producer Ma Dong-seok responded to his decision to step away from the camera.

South Korea's first profiler Kwon Il-yong brought laughter to viewers by revealing that he will not be appearing in the film 'The Roundup 5'. After making a surprise transition into acting in the previous installment, 'The Roundup: Punishment', he decided to take on a consulting role instead of appearing on screen for the sequel, noting that people around him actually responded by saying, "Thank you for not appearing."
Kwon Il-yong appeared on episode 592 of the YouTube channel VIVO TV's 'Secret Guarantee', which was released on the 21st, to discuss matters regarding 'The Roundup 5'. Psychiatrist Lee Gwang-min also appeared as a guest on the broadcast, engaging in various topics with hosts Song Eun-yi and Kim Sook.
During the broadcast, Kwon was asked if he would appear in 'The Roundup 5' following his appearance in 'The Roundup: Punishment'. Having challenged himself with an acting role in 'The Roundup: Punishment', which was released in 2024, he drew a line by stating he would not appear this time. While his expertise as a former profiler added realism to crime investigation works, he has decided not to stand before the camera for the sequel.
The reactions from those around him added to the humor. Kwon shared that upon hearing the news of his non-appearance, he heard the words, "Thank you for not appearing" from people. While his acting challenge provided fresh entertainment, it seems those around him were not entirely welcoming of his acting activities. His calm confession brought laughter to the studio.
However, this does not mean Kwon's connection to 'The Roundup 5' is completely severed. He revealed a conversation he had with Ma Dong-seok, who is participating as a lead actor and producer, while visiting the set to provide consultation for the sequel. Kwon mentioned feeling concerned at the time because the dialogue for the role of the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency was long, but Ma Dong-seok reportedly said something to the effect of, "Someone else will do it instead." Kwon recounted the behind-the-scenes story of the filming set while recalling the situation.
Lee Gwang-min, who was present at the same location, provided an interesting contrast to Kwon's reaction. He stated that whenever he receives requests for drama consultation, he expresses his desire to appear, even if only in a role as a patient. He showed an active attitude, wanting to go beyond merely advising works using his expertise to actually acting in them. The contrast between Kwon, who declined to appear, and Lee, who wants to take on even a small role, drew laughter.
Kwon Il-yong is South Korea's first profiler and is active in various fields, including broadcasting and lectures, based on the experience and expertise he built at actual crime investigation sites. While informing the public about criminal psychology and investigation techniques, he has been loved for his unique wit and serious analysis in various broadcast programs.
Having presented an unexpected acting challenge in 'The Roundup: Punishment', Kwon Il-yong will now maintain his connection to the work as a consultant rather than an actor. While this may be disappointing news for fans who wondered if he would appear as an actor again, interest is growing in how his expertise will be reflected in the sequel.
