Lee Kyung-sil expresses regret over taking ex-husband's luck during first marriage
Comedian Lee Kyung-sil reflected on her first marriage, expressing feelings of regret that her own success might have come at the expense of her ex-husband's fortune.
Comedian Lee Kyung-sil reflected on her 1992 marriage to her first love during a YouTube appearance on the 1st, suggesting her own success may have come at the expense of her ex-husband's luck. Following their 2003 divorce, she noted that he has performed better since their separation.
Comedian Lee Kyung-sil has opened up about her first marriage, expressing feelings of regret toward her ex-husband. She shared her reflection that her own success and luck might have come at his expense, stating, "He really has done better after separating from me."
On the YouTube channel 'Jisik Inside,' a video titled "'A daughter-in-law like a daughter is a fantasy': Why mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law don't necessarily need to be close" was released on the 1st. Appearing on the program, Lee discussed the balance of relationships and how to treat a partner when an income gap arises between spouses. While sharing realistic thoughts derived from her own marriage experiences, she touched upon her first marriage.
“Looking at life, there are no married couples where both people are both highly successful. One person becomes a bit weaker,” Lee said. She further explained that a situation where one partner becomes economically or socially ahead of the other should not be interpreted simply as a difference in ability. “It might not be that the person is incompetent, but rather that this person has taken even that person's luck as well,” she explained.
These thoughts naturally led to a confession regarding her ex-husband. Lee confessed, “In a way, looking back at my first marriage, there are parts of me that feel sorry to him.” She expressed the thought that he was someone who could have lived a successful life if he had met someone else, but she wondered if her being with him caused his luck to be taken by her instead.
“He is a person who could have done well if he lived with someone else, but perhaps because all the luck came to me because of me, he appeared small,” Lee said. She added, “He really has done better after separating from me.” Her remarks are interpreted as acknowledging her ex-husband's potential by looking back at the past relationship from a new perspective rather than comparing her success to his life.
This is not the first time Lee has shared such feelings regarding her first marriage. Recently, on the YouTube channel 'Rolling Thunder,' she also stated, “Luck does not gather for both people in a married couple,” expressing regret that she felt she might have taken her partner's luck. At that time, she reflected on her first marriage, noting, “I had no dating experience, so I lived without being very calculating,” as she looked back on her choices and the relationship.
Lee married her first love, a college classmate, in 1992, and they had a daughter, Son Su-a, and a son, Brian Son. However, the marriage ended in divorce in 2003. She remarried a businessman nine years her senior in 2007 and has since maintained a common-law marriage without registering the marriage.
Recently, she has been engaging in activities with her family. This past July, she opened the YouTube channel 'My Mom Lee Kyung-sil' with her daughter, Son Su-a, who is active as an actress, to share their daily lives. While candidly reflecting on her past marriage and divorce, interest continues to grow in Lee's journey as she builds a new daily life with her family.
