Oh Yoona reveals husband's devotion to disabled son led to remarriage
Actress Oh Yoona shared the emotional reasons behind her decision to remarry, highlighting how her husband's deep affection and care for her developmentally disabled son, Min-i, moved her to start a new family.
Actress Oh Yoona shared on the 29th that her husband's decision to treat her developmentally disabled son, Min-i, as his own biological child prompted her to remarry. After turning twenty, Min-i has also begun a new career as a professional athlete on a swimming team for the disabled.
Actress Oh Yoona shed tears while revealing the decisive moment that led her to decide on remarriage after 11 years. She confessed that her heart was moved by her husband, who treats her developmentally disabled son, Min-i, as his own biological child and provides him with special experiences that no one else could easily offer. In particular, the anecdote of her husband taking Min-i to a public bathhouse—something even his own father had never done—left a deep impression on her.
Oh Yoona appeared on the KBS 2TV show 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant' on the 29th, having recently remarried and formed a new family. Returning to the program after approximately three years, she drew viewers' attention by sharing updates on her son Min-i's life and the unexpected news of her remarriage.
The most notable change is Min-i's growth. After turning twenty, Min-i, who has a developmental disability, joined a professional swimming team for the disabled and is now active as an athlete. Oh Yoona explained that he was offered the opportunity to become an athlete following a swimming video of Min-i that she had previously shared on 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant.' After passing entrance tests, he officially began his career as an athlete. "Min-i received his first paycheck, and it was so touching. A miracle happened as soon as he turned twenty," she said, expressing her overwhelming emotions.
Another major change has come to Oh Yoona. While she had long thought she would live alone with her son, she decided to remarry after meeting a good person. "I didn't know I would be making a new start myself. I thought I would live only with my child for my whole life, but now the three of us are living together," she said, introducing her changed family structure. She shared that as her mother moved to the countryside and her husband moved in, the three of them are building a new daily life together.
Her husband was born in 1984, four years younger than Oh Yoona. The couple, who have called each other "honey" since they were dating, said they did not initially consider a romantic relationship when they first met through an introduction. Oh Yoona revealed an anecdote from the early stages of their relationship, noting that her husband was direct, telling her, "A sister like you needs to meet a man like me." Unlike herself, who had no intention of marriage, her husband approached her actively from the beginning.
However, it was not just sweet words or active courtship that moved Oh Yoona's heart. Even before they began dating seriously, her husband showed special interest in Min-i and one day took him to a public bathhouse. "Even my father never took him, but Min-i went to a public bathhouse for the first time. I think Min-i fell in love with it there," Oh Yoona recalled. The husband's action of gifting his son a special experience remained an unforgettable scene for her.
"He must have been very happy because it was such a new experience even inside the bathhouse," she recalled. She continued, "I think it was meaningful that my husband took Min-i to the bathhouse as soon as he saw him. It felt like he took the child because he considered him his own son," as she shed tears. She confessed that she felt his sincerity not just in how well he treated the child, but in how he naturally shared the experiences and daily life of her son—things she herself found difficult to fulfill.
The husband's meticulous care did not stop at the bathhouse. He stepped in to help with things that were difficult for Oh Yoona to manage while raising a boy like Min-i. It was the husband who patiently taught Min-i how to brush his teeth and wash his hair by himself. Oh Yoona said her feelings deepened when she saw him leading the large-framed Min-i at a ski resort, even while sweating profusely. In his attitude toward the child, she confirmed a continuous sense of responsibility and affection rather than a one-time kindness.
"Because Min-i is experiencing things through my husband that he didn't experience through his biological father, an indescribable movement of the heart occurred very greatly," Oh Yoona said, mentioning the effort her husband poured into her and her son. Min-i has also come to like the husband very much, and at some point, he began waiting for "Uncle" and leaning closely against him. Oh Yoona revealed, "At some point, Min-i looked at Uncle and realized he is 'our family.' I thought, 'If I were to marry, I should marry someone like this.'"
The warm attitude of her parents-in-law also had a significant influence on her final decision. Oh Yoona recalled the moment her father-in-law gave Min-i a warm hug when she first introduced him. He remembered that Min-i likes puffed rice and bought it in advance, and he actively engaged in conversation, saying they should encourage the child to speak more. She also shared a memory of her father-in-law looking at Min-i and saying, "If he does just a little more, I think he can become anything." She described her mother-in-law as "an angel itself," noting that she welcomed both her and Min-i warmly.
Oh Yoona stated that she decided to marry after meeting such people, wondering, "How could I ever meet people like this again?" It was not just her husband's affection, but the belief that a new family could fully accept her and her son that gave her the courage to remarry. From a long life centered on her son to the addition of a new partner, the decisive role in Oh Yoona's choice was the steady interest and consideration shown toward one child.
