YouTuber Park Wi is facing renewed online criticism as a year-old video of him expressing a wish for Korean food to be served like a specific dining experience in Chicago has resurfaced. This controversy follows previous disputes regarding his release of CCTV footage from a KTX fall accident in August.

Controversy is mounting online as past videos and remarks by YouTuber Park Wi are being repeatedly resurfaced. Following previous disputes regarding the release of CCTV footage from a KTX fall accident and a video involving a French fry order, his comments regarding Korean food culture at a restaurant in the United States have now become a focal point of debate among netizens.

Recently, a YouTube Short titled "Park Wi criticizing K-food in Chicago?" garnered significant attention. The video is an edited segment of "A US trip filled with love and gratitude," which Park Wi uploaded to his YouTube channel, WERACLE, approximately one year ago. The scene, which did not draw much attention at the time, has now become the center of controversy.

In the video, while dining at a high-end restaurant in Chicago, Park Wi reacted with interest when a staff member brought out a heated plate. When the staff member advised him to be careful because the plate was hot, Park Wi expressed fascination, saying, "The plate is warm. It's very hot, be careful," adding, "I've never seen anything like this before" to show his satisfaction.

The controversial part follows his subsequent remarks. After expressing admiration by saying, "I love this so much," Park Wi stated, "I wish Korean food was like this. I wish they served it in something like this." While his intent was to express satisfaction with the dining method experienced at the American restaurant, the resurfacing of the clip has drawn criticism for comparing it to Korean food culture.

Some netizens pointed out that Korea has long utilized items like stone pots and earthenware pots to maintain food temperature. They argued that since high-end restaurants in Korea also pre-heat plates to prevent food from cooling, it is inappropriate to compare a specific dining experience at one restaurant to the entirety of Korean food culture. Conversely, some perspectives suggest there is no need to excessively problematize a person expressing a preference based on a personal dining experience.

Sharp comments have appeared online, such as "Why do you live in Korea?" and "If you want to praise something, just praise it; why must you compare it and put the other one down?" However, since the remarks in the video were expressions of personal sentiment regarding the service at a specific restaurant, interpretations vary on whether they should be accepted as an evaluation of all Korean food.

The background of this heightened controversy includes the dispute surrounding a KTX fall accident that occurred this past August. At the time, Park Wi suffered a fall when his wheelchair caught on the foot of a social service agent who was assisting him. Criticism was raised after he released CCTV footage of the accident, and Park Wi subsequently apologized, noting that he had failed to sufficiently consider the position of the person attempting to help him.

Recently, a video where he ordered French fries at a fast-food restaurant and said, "I should have told them to fry them hot, ah, damn!" has also drawn renewed attention. While each scene differs in context and situation from when they were originally released, the continuous summoning of past videos is causing negative public opinion regarding Park Wi's words and actions to spread.

However, it is also noted that when short, edited clips of past videos spread, provocative segments may be highlighted over the full context of the remarks. Aside from the criticism of specific scenes, some point out that one should be cautious about judging a speaker's intent or overall attitude based solely on edited footage.

Park Wi married Song Ji-eun, formerly of the group Secret, in 2024 and currently operates the YouTube channel WERACLE. As he has consistently communicated with the public, attention is focused on how he will be evaluated amidst these successive controversies surrounding his past content.
