Park Wi KTX controversy: Malicious comments target wife Song Ji-eun
Netizens target Song Ji-eun with 'guilt by association' attacks following YouTuber Park Wi's controversial release of KTX accident footage.
While YouTuber Park Wi has become embroiled in controversy after releasing CCTV footage of his fall on a KTX, the backlash is now spreading to his wife, Song Ji-eun. As netizens criticizing Park Wi's actions have moved to Song Ji-eun's SNS to leave malicious comments, critics argue that this "guilt by association"—holding family members accountable who have no direct connection to the matter—has gone too far.

On the 22nd, recent posts on Song Ji-eun's SNS saw a succession of comments mentioning the controversy surrounding Park Wi's release of the CCTV footage.
Some netizens criticized Park Wi with expressions such as, "Watch your husband. His actions are not normal," "I feel so sorry for the public interest," "Stop playing the victim," and "Hypocrite." Comments also continued to drag in Park Wi's past activities, which have no direct relation to the current incident.
The starting point of the controversy was the accident Park Wi experienced on the KTX on the 14th. While traveling on the KTX for a lecture, Park fell forward while descending a ramp during disembarkation when his wheelchair wheel caught on the foot of a social service agent assisting him.
Park Wi subsequently released the CCTV footage capturing the accident through his YouTube channel, 'Wheracle.' While requesting that people refrain from criticizing specific individuals, he raised the issue that safety systems need improvement, as a single mistake can lead to a major accident.
However, backlash grew regarding the method of releasing the video. In particular, since the worker assisting Park at the time of the accident had made a mistake and then apologized politely, criticism arose over whether it was appropriate to release that scene as content on a channel with a large subscriber base.
Ultimately, Park Wi deleted the video and apologized. He stated, "I failed to consider the position of the worker who did their best to help me on-site and apologized politely," admitting that his method of communication was immature and short-sighted. He continued, "I apologize to everyone who worked hard on-site," and promised to act more cautiously and responsibly in the future.
Separate from the apology, the controversy has spread to Song Ji-eun. Although Song Ji-eun was not involved in the process of releasing the CCTV or the decision to produce or post the video, she is being attacked on SNS simply because she is Park Wi's spouse.
While public criticism can be directed at the individual who caused controversy through public activities, holding a spouse or family member to the same standard of responsibility is a separate issue. In particular, the method of attacking individuals by bringing up their past actions or family relationships through SNS comments is highly likely to lead to secondary criticism unrelated to the essence of the incident.
This controversy has simultaneously revealed ethical issues that can arise when turning an accident scene into content, alongside the original issue of mobility rights and safety for people with disabilities. A clear boundary exists between the right of the person involved in an accident to raise an issue and the act of exposing an individual's mistake to the public.
Park Wi and Song Ji-eun married in 2024. The two have communicated with the public by sharing their dating, marriage, and daily lives through SNS and YouTube. However, high levels of public exposure can sometimes result in criticism expanding into private spheres.
This is why voices are rising stating that the criticism against Park Wi and the attacks on Song Ji-eun must be distinguished. The principle is being reaffirmed that criticism of an incident should be directed at the actions of the person involved, and responsibility should not be transferred to another individual simply because they are a spouse.
