Former Goofy member Shin Dong-uk reveals new life working at large-scale pig farm after failed business in Philippines

Shin Dong-uk, a former member of the group Goofy, has revealed his current life working at a large-scale pig farm in Buyeo, South Chungcheong Province, after leaving the entertainment industry. Having previously operated an advertising production company focused on music videos, he chose a completely different life after experiencing burnout and a failed business venture in the Philippines. In a striking contrast to his past life behind the scenes and on glamorous stages, he confessed that he is now making a living at a farm that raises 18,000 pigs.

On the 6th, a video titled "Shocking first reveal of the current status of Goofy's Shin Dong-uk, who disappeared from the entertainment industry" was released on the YouTube channel 'R After'. Appearing in the video, Shin Dong-uk drew attention by candidly sharing his previously unknown life and the various events he experienced after leaving the entertainment industry.

Shin Dong-uk first revealed his experience running a business in Cebu, Philippines. "A lot has happened. I did business in Cebu, Philippines, something that was never even in my life plan," he said. While he dreamed of a new life by challenging himself with an unexpected overseas business, the choice ultimately led to further trial and error.

Before leaving for the Philippines, Shin Dong-uk had been operating an advertising production company in South Korea, producing music videos. While the business itself was running smoothly, he experienced psychological burnout due to the repetitive nature of the work. "I used to run an advertising production company in Korea and shoot music videos. Because I was doing the same thing every time, I wanted to try something new," he explained, adding, "The business itself was doing well, but after doing it for about four years, I hit burnout."

The life in the Philippines, which he chose to escape his familiar routine, provided him with new vitality for a time. Shin Dong-uk recalled, "Philippines is a country with a high happiness index, so it was healing." However, mental peace and business success were separate issues. He confessed, "It would have been more healing if the business had also gone well, but it became a minus, so I returned to Korea." While he sought new possibilities abroad, he had to bear the economic losses.

After returning to South Korea, the workplace Shin Dong-uk chose was a pig farm, an environment entirely different from the entertainment industry. "That's how I returned recklessly. Since I have to make a living, I asked a chairman I know for help, and I have been working at a pig farm in Buyeo, South Chungcheong Province, since last year," he revealed. He explained that he prioritized the realistic choice of sustaining his livelihood over his background as a former celebrity.

The scale of the farm where he works is considerable. Shin Dong-uk stated, "It is one of the largest pig farms in South Korea, with 18,000 pigs on 60,000 pyeong." He is experiencing new labor and life at a site equipped with massive breeding facilities and a site spanning tens of thousands of pyeong. Although his daily life is far removed from glamorous entertainment activities, his confession carries weight as he takes responsibility for his own livelihood and resets the direction of his life.

Born in 1978, Shin Dong-uk debuted in 1996 as part of the three-member group Goofy. After making a name for himself in the popular music scene, he challenged various fields including advertising production and business. As his life path—moving from the entertainment industry to business in the Philippines and then to farm labor in South Korea—was revealed, attention is focusing on the current status of Shin Dong-uk, who had not appeared for a long time.
