YouTuber Yoo Byeong-gwon reveals broken engagement due to partner's multiple lovers
YouTuber and actor Yoo Byeong-gwon shared the story of his broken engagement, which occurred right before the wedding after he discovered his partner had other lovers in different countries.
Actor and YouTuber Yoo Byeong-gwon revealed on the YouTube program "Saeolppak" that he called off his wedding after discovering his partner had multiple lovers in different countries. The engagement was cancelled after a friend of the partner attempted to intervene, leaving Yoo struggling with suspicion in subsequent relationships.
YouTuber and actor Yoo Byeong-gwon has revealed the story of why he was forced to call off his wedding. Despite having completed preparations with both families and being at a stage where only the ceremony remained, he discovered that his partner, to whom he had promised marriage, had other lovers in other countries. Having made a major decision to proceed with the marriage, he confessed that the shock of the breakup was significant and that he has struggled with suspicion in subsequent relationships.
During a recent episode of the YouTube content "Saeolppak" titled "Look at People Who Can't Get Married," Yoo met with Seong Ji-in, the CEO of a marriage information company, to disclose his experience of the broken engagement. While explaining why the relationship soured ahead of the wedding, he brought up an unexpected detail regarding the situation at the time.
“The preparations with both families were done, and it was just a matter of holding the ceremony. But it turned out there was someone like me in every country,” Yoo said. He meant that while he believed he was the only partner for the person he was about to marry, there were other lovers in different countries in similar positions to him. Given that he faced this reality during the specific stages of wedding preparation, the shock appears to have been substantial.
He explained that in later relationships, certain situations or words have served as triggers for suspicion. “Don't you have certain keywords that stick in your mind when dating later?” Yoo asked. “If I am in a situation where someone says, 'I'm visiting a place and doing this with someone—a person from that country,' I become a data expert. At that point, I look everything up.” He confessed that due to his past experience, he has come to meticulously verify information whenever similar circumstances arise.
The decisive trigger for the broken engagement was information received from the partner's friend. “The partner's friend told me. That friend tried to stop me,” Yoo revealed. Upon learning about the partner's situation through someone close, he appears to have judged that it would be difficult to proceed with the marriage. However, he did not disclose specific details regarding how the partner maintained multiple relationships.
Ultimately, Yoo said he ended the relationship without providing any particular explanation to the partner. “My emotions were leading, and I was trying to push through with the marriage, but I felt that breaking up was the right thing to do,” he recalled, adding, “I disappeared without saying anything.” This suggests he faced difficult deliberations in settling the relationship while the wedding was imminent.
He also confessed to the aftereffects of the breakup. “It was hard. I think I developed a bit of a suspicious nature,” Yoo said. This indicates that the single experience influenced how he views subsequent relationships. Because the incident occurred when he had trusted the partner enough to promise marriage, it appears he could not help but develop wariness in new relationships.
Upon hearing the story, CEO Seong Ji-in also introduced an absurd case heard from those around her. “The two were seeing each other well, and the girlfriend said she was going on a trip for over a week, but it turned out she had gone on a honeymoon,” she said, noting it was a real experience from an acquaintance. The cast members found it difficult to hide their surprise at the explanation that a situation believed to be a trip with a lover was actually a honeymoon with someone else.
Yoo added that a similar incident happened to one of his acquaintances. A friend working as a creator was dating a man from abroad; the partner traveled abroad several times, claiming he was busy, but the friend, finding this strange, followed his social media and discovered wedding photos. Although the cases were different, they left a bitter impression in that there was a large gap between the partner's explanations and the actual reality.
From the broken engagement ahead of a wedding to unexpected romantic cases occurring around him, the stories revealed that day prompted reflection on how important trust is in a relationship. In particular, as Yoo revealed that he developed suspicion in later dating due to his past wounds, attention has focused on the emotional aftereffects left on an individual when a relationship facing marriage collapses.
