Cho Jin-woong to Appear in 'Signal 2' Without Editing This November
tvN's 'Signal 2' is set for a November 30 release, featuring Cho Jin-woong in his original footage despite recent controversies.
'Signal 2' (The Second Signal), a tvN drama, has been confirmed for a Monday-Tuesday time slot starting November 30 after a scheduling hiatus, once again placing this representative IP—returning after 10 years—at the center of the broadcasting industry. This season, consisting of 8 episodes, is scheduled to air until December 22 and is planned as a legitimate sequel that expands the universe of the previous work.

The predecessor, 'Signal', was a work that caused a great sensation with its original narrative structure tracking long-term unsolved cases through a walkie-talkie that connects the past and the present, setting a new standard for the genre by recording a peak viewership rating of 13.4% (according to Nielsen Korea). This season also focuses on maintaining narrative density and genre perfection as writer Kim Eun-hee and director Ahn Tae-jin reunite.
However, 'Signal 2' experienced ups and downs, with its scheduling being put on hold once due to continuous exposure to non-content-related controversies from the production stage. In particular, as the past history related to Cho Jin-woong, one of the core cast members, was belatedly re-examined, social debate spread regarding whether the work should be released.
The controversy began when past incidents known as the actor's criminal record during his minority were resurfaced, after which public opinion was sharply divided over the appropriateness of the broadcast. Some expressed the position that "it is excessive to judge the entire work based on an individual's past for which legal procedures have already been concluded," while others raised criticisms that "the ethical flaws of a lead actor could affect content consumption," expanding it into a social discourse.
In this situation, the production team reviewed the possibility of adjusting the footage using editing and AI-based technology, but it is understood that they ultimately chose the direction of 'minimal editing broadcast' by maintaining the existing filmed footage, judging that it could damage the narrative continuity and the integrity of the work. This decision is evaluated as a case that once again calls attention to the balance between the artistic perfection of broadcast content and social responsibility. \As a result, 'The Second Signal' has entered the release stage by confirming its broadcast schedule despite complex variables such as production delays, scheduling readjustments, and cast controversies. The industry views whether this season can inherit the reputation of its predecessor and how content amidst controversy will be received by viewers as the key variables for future evaluation.
