'True Education' Star Park Ji-yeon Sparks Viewer Outrage as the Series' Worst Overzealous Mother
Park Ji-yeon drew intense reactions in Netflix series 'True Education' with her chilling portrayal of Woo-jin's mother, an extreme parent who terrorizes teachers.
Park Ji-yeon has made a firm impression on viewers through her intense performance in the Netflix series 'True Education,' drawing widespread anger with a character designed to provoke a strong reaction.

'True Education,' which released all 10 episodes on the 5th, depicts the satisfying and forceful intervention of the Teacher Rights Protection Bureau, an organization created to defend teacher authority and education sites in South Korea after they have been undermined by students, teachers and parents who cross the line. With the distinctive premise of the Teacher Rights Protection Bureau, a cathartic narrative and committed performances from Kim Mu-yeol, Lee Sung-min and Jin Ki-joo, the series quickly captured global viewers.
Amid that momentum, Park Ji-yeon emerged as a major talking point in episode 5 by taking on the role of Woo-jin's mother, described as one of the most vicious parents ever portrayed in the series. With a suffocatingly intense performance, she dominated the episode. Woo-jin's mother embodies the stereotype of an overzealous parent who overprotects her son and repeatedly files malicious complaints against teachers.
Woo-jin's mother first appears in an unusually tense manner during an open class at school. She then monitors a teacher's private life and spreads false information in an online mothers' community, revealing a cold and unsettling obsession. Park Ji-yeon captured both the character's details and the atmosphere surrounding her with precision, overpowering the screen.
In particular, she drew viewers in with the memorable line, "My child's father is very angry." From there, the character escalates her behavior without pause: she finds fault with trivial matters, sends messages day and night, and eventually sues the homeroom teacher on allegations of emotional child abuse. Her constant wrongdoing pushed viewer anger to its peak. The later scene in which she loses control and lashes out after facing the eye-for-an-eye method used by Na Hwa-jin, the Teacher Rights Protection Bureau inspector played by Kim Mu-yeol, has been praised for delivering tension comparable to a thriller film.
Park Ji-yeon also won applause for the emotional density of her performance in the latter part of the episode. Even under strong pressure from the Teacher Rights Protection Bureau, Woo-jin's mother continues to justify her own actions and stand her ground. But when she finally faces her wounded son's tearful confession, she breaks down, and Park renders that collapse with layered emotion. The performance succeeds in conveying the powerful message that, no matter how much of a villain she may be, the character is still a mother.
Park Ji-yeon studied Theater and Film at Hanyang University and made her debut in the 2005 film 'Another Public Enemy.' She has since appeared in 'Juvenile Justice' (2022), 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' (2022), 'Daily Dose of Sunshine' (2023), 'Good Partner' (2024), 'The Judge from Hell' (2024) and 'Efficient Meeting of Single Men and Women' (2026).
