Blackpink's Jisoo reveals high-end art collection in home selfies

While Blackpink's Jisoo released casual selfies taken at home, the artworks captured in the background are drawing unexpected attention. As the pieces are presumed to be works by masters of Korean contemporary Dansaekhwa (monochrome painting), eyes are turning toward Jisoo's extraordinary art taste.

On the 23rd, Jisoo posted several photos taken at home on her SNS. The photos captured her natural daily life, showing her looking at the camera in comfortable attire, such as a T-shirt, which differs from her glamorous image on stage.

However, the paintings hanging in the background of the photos caught the eyes of fans. One of the works positioned behind Jisoo is presumed to be from the 'Dialogue' series by Lee Ufan, a representative artist of Korean Dansaekhwa. Lee Ufan's works are steadily traded in the international art market, with prices ranging from hundreds of millions to billions of won depending on the piece. The work in question is also known to trade in the range of 1 billion to 2 billion won in the market.

Another piece is presumed to be from the 'Écriture' series, one of the representative series by artist Park Seo-bo. Park Seo-bo is a key artist who introduced Korean Dansaekhwa to the global art world through his 'Écriture' series, which builds a canvas through repetitive lines and actions. Therefore, if these two works are indeed part of Jisoo's private collection at her residence, they can be viewed as a significant collection beyond mere interior decoration.

However, it is difficult to confirm the exact artist, production period, edition, authenticity, and transaction price of the works based solely on SNS photos. This is because the value of artwork varies greatly depending on the year of production, size, provenance, condition, and exhibition or auction history, even within the same series.

Nevertheless, it is interesting that representative works of Korean contemporary Dansaekhwa have been naturally exposed to the public through Jisoo's selfies. The phenomenon of artworks displayed in the private spaces of K-pop stars becoming a hot topic shows that a celebrity's taste is being consumed as a cultural signifier in the realms of art and design, extending beyond fashion and music.

Jisoo is also continuing her independent path in musical activities. She will embark on solo activities by releasing her new song 'CLICK' on the 4th of next month. This is her first solo new song in about 11 months since the single 'EYES CLOSED,' a collaboration with pop star Sung Ji-yeon, formerly of One Direction, released last October.

Her agency stated that specific information regarding 'CLICK' will be released sequentially in the future.

Jisoo, who made her debut as a member of Blackpink in 2016, marks her 10th anniversary of debut this year. In February last year, she released her first solo mini-album 'AMORTAGE,' confirming her presence as a solo artist by ranking number one on the iTunes Top Albums charts in 45 regions.
