ITZY's Ryujin apologizes for onstage gesture, citing costume discomfort
ITZY's Ryujin addressed the controversy regarding her onstage behavior during a recent concert, explaining that her jumpsuit was causing severe pain.
Ryujin, a member of the group ITZY, has directly addressed and apologized to fans regarding recent controversy surrounding her costume during a performance.
During the ITZY world tour concert held on the 11th at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, Ryujin was captured on stage reaching inside her pants to adjust her outfit. The footage spread rapidly through online communities and SNS, sparking a heated debate among netizens regarding the appropriateness of her actions on stage.
As the controversy grew, Ryujin explained the situation during a live broadcast on the 19th. "The jumpsuit kept rolling up, and the pain was so severe," she stated, adding, "In that moment, I acted without much thought just to fix the costume."
She continued, "It looked like my hand went in further than I thought. When I checked the video later, I felt that my actions could indeed be misunderstood."
She explained that the issue arose while she was performing high-intensity choreography, and her actions were an attempt to resolve the discomfort immediately. However, Ryujin expressed a cautious stance, acknowledging that regardless of her intentions, her actions could have caused discomfort to fans and the public.
"I have received many messages and encountered various opinions regarding this matter," she said. "I am sorry for causing worry and discomfort due to my actions on stage."
She repeated her apology, saying, "I should have been more careful on stage. I feel sorry toward my fans."
Since idol group performances are characterized by high-difficulty choreography, costume management is a crucial factor in stage quality. In particular, jumpsuits can shift during intense movement, potentially causing discomfort or safety issues, which requires meticulous management from both the artist and the styling team.
ITZY is currently conducting their 'ITZY 2ND WORLD TOUR' for global fans. Having completed their performance in the Philippines, ITZY is scheduled to meet overseas fans starting with a concert in Macau on August 15, followed by stops in Taipei, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, and Singapore.
Through this clarification, Ryujin sought to resolve the situation by explaining the circumstances while emphasizing her sense of responsibility and consideration for her fans.
