NewJeans celebrates 4th anniversary; Minji's return remains undecided

An official from ADOR explained in an interview with Xports News on the 22nd, "This video is official commemorative content produced to celebrate NewJeans' 4th anniversary together with fans." Some evaluate the release as having significant cultural industry weight, as it serves as more than just a celebratory video, acting as symbolic content intended to restore connection with the fandom following long-term legal disputes and a hiatus in activities.

In particular, the video drew attention by featuring Hanni, Haerin, and Hyein, who have confirmed their return to ADOR, alongside Minji, who is still in the process of negotiating her return. Minji's appearance in the official content has led to speculation that negotiations with the agency may have progressed, but ADOR cautioned against such overinterpretations.

"NewJeans' specific activity plans and operational methods will be officially announced after discussions with the members are completely finalized," ADOR explained, adding, "At this moment, there is nothing further to disclose." This suggests that matters surrounding the future direction of the group's management, the scope of individual member activities, and the timing of their return are still in the coordination stage.

Since last year, NewJeans has caused significant waves across the K-pop industry while continuing legal disputes surrounding their exclusive contracts with ADOR. This matter is viewed as a landmark case that has triggered social discussions beyond simple contract conflicts, touching upon the rights and obligations of exclusive contracts, an artist's right to self-determination, and the governance and contracting practices of the entertainment industry. In this process, the members have sequentially expressed their intention to return to ADOR to normalize the group, but in Minji's case, the agency has only maintained the principled position that "negotiations are proceeding in a positive direction.'

Previously, during Minji's birthday in May, speculation regarding a reconciliation grew when celebratory content was posted on NewJeans' official SNS accounts. However, the agency made no separate announcement regarding her return at that time, and they maintain that this 4th-anniversary content does not signify Minji's official return.
