Psy's 'Gangnam Style' hits 6 billion YouTube views after 14 years

Singer Psy's global mega-hit 'Gangnam Style' music video has set another milestone in K-pop history by surpassing 6 billion views on YouTube.

Released on July 15, 2012, the 'Gangnam Style' music video exceeded 6 billion views on YouTube on the afternoon of the 17th. After reaching 5 billion views in December 2023, it added another 1 billion views in approximately 2 years and 7 months, proving its sustained global interest even 14 years after its release.

'Gangnam Style' is regarded as a representative piece of content symbolizing the globalization of K-pop. In December 2012, it set a record by becoming the first video in YouTube history to surpass 1 billion views, and it established itself as a work that elevated the global status of K-pop at the time by holding the number 2 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 for 7 consecutive weeks.

This achievement of 6 billion views goes beyond a simple increase in views; it adds significance as an example showing the continuous influence of content that is loved across generations and borders.

Psy, who is currently conducting his nationwide tour 'Psy Summer Swag 2026', held a special event at his Gwacheon performance on the 18th to celebrate the 6 billion views milestone for 'Gangnam Style'.

On this day, Psy took the stage wearing an outfit recreating the light blue jacket and black bowtie he wore in the music video, celebrating the massive record with the audience. He drew enthusiastic cheers from the fans in attendance by announcing, "I will release the video filmed today as a thank-you video for the 6 billion YouTube views."

'Psy Summer Swag 2026' began with a performance in Uijeongbu on June 27 and has completed performances in Daegu, Incheon, Seoul Grand Park, and Gwacheon; it will begin its next leg in Wonju on the 25th.
