Jeong Seon-hui on Turning Into a Villain in Decisive Moments: "Do Not Let Your Guard Down"

On the 25th, a video titled 'Read this when you are having a hard time: Jeong Seon-hui's advice that held Hong Jin-kyung's mental state together (+buried stories)' was posted on the YouTube channel 'Study King Jin Genius'.

Jeong Seon-hui shared her thoughts on reading Natsume Soseki's novel 'Kokoro,' relating it to her own circumstances. She evaluated the work, saying, "I dislike all of the protagonist's judgments and find him very hateful. I also hate how he makes those choices himself and then shifts the responsibility to those left behind. He is a character who deserves criticism." She continued by reflecting on her past, "When I closed the book, it felt as if it were asking me, 'Do you think you would be any different?' I believe I can make different choices, but there are ugly feelings within me that frequently break through. I cannot guarantee that I am different from that protagonist."

She showed a matured side after enduring pain, stating, "In the past, I resented the world too much and hated people to the point of cursing them. I thought it was too cruel. I felt it was unfair how they could so cruelly dissect and probe a tragedy that happened to a human being, and how they could be so unkind to someone else's life. However, I too found myself looking up out of curiosity regarding someone else's tragedy. Those series of actions felt as if they were asking me, 'Are you any different?'"

Quoting a passage from the novel, she said, "Mold-pressed evil does not exist in this world. Usually, everyone is good, or at least ordinary people. But it is terrifying because, at a decisive moment, they suddenly transform into villains. Therefore, you must not let your guard down."

Jeong Seon-hui married the late actor Ahn Jae-hwan in 2007 but was widowed the following year. She suffered severe financial hardships, including her house going to auction after taking on the deceased's 7.85 billion won debt (3 billion won principal). It is reported that she suffered immensely, even suspending her broadcasting activities due to malicious rumors regarding the deceased.

On the 18th, Hong Jin-kyung defended her on YouTube, saying, "Jeong Seon-hui unnie went through such great pain, but strangely, people attacked her because of that pain."

She expressed her sympathy for Jeong Seon-hui, adding, "Even though it wasn't something she should have been criticized for, her life suddenly collapsed, and she faced inexplicable blame. Because of that, a person ends up retreating entirely, much like a snail hiding inside its shell."
