Lee Ji Hye Shares Firm Parenting Philosophy to Avoid Being an "Ugly Korean"

Broadcaster Lee Ji Hye, formerly of the group S#arp, revealed on tvN STORY 'Namgyeoseo Mwohage' the reason why she strictly disciplined her second daughter, Ellie (5), when she threw a tantrum during an overseas trip.

Pak Se-ri, a broadcaster and former golfer, initiated the conversation by mentioning an anecdote where Lee Ji Hye strictly disciplined her daughter during a family trip abroad, noting, "Her approach to child education is quite distinct."

During the trip, Lee Ji Hye's family visited a cafe in Hawaii, where Ellie began to throw a tantrum. Ultimately, Lee Ji Hye drew attention with her cold disciplinary method of picking up her daughter and forcibly exiting the establishment.

Lee Ji Hye explained the situation, saying, "I always think, 'Let's not cause trouble for others' and 'Let's raise my own child well.' In particular, I do not want to become an 'Ugly Korean.' Since everyone knows we are Korean, I could never tolerate my child crying while I just stood by. I kept giving warnings like 'Stop it' at first. But since the noise increased, I immediately took her out."

She continued, expressing her conviction that one must be firm with children while teaching them consideration for others: "I went to a place where there were no people, stood her in front of a wall, and taught her, 'Be quiet. Do not cry out loud. Stay calm. If you cry, you cannot go back in.'"

Lee Young Ja asked, "Does Ellie act like that everywhere after that?" to which Lee Ji Hye replied, "Since then, she tends to listen more when I say, 'No.'"

Lee Ji Hye married tax accountant Moon Jae-wan in 2017 and has two daughters.
