Noh Hong Chul to build hotel after poor UK stay: 'So excited I can't sleep'
Entertainer Noh Hong Chul reveals plans for a unique hotel project inspired by a frustrating experience with broken air conditioning in the UK.
Entertainer Noh Hong Chul has embarked on a new challenge, revealing a hotel project that embodies his unique philosophy and sensibility. Having previously ventured into various businesses such as cafes and bakeries, he is drawing significant attention by announcing his intention to curate the very experience of 'accommodation.' Interest in his new venture has intensified following an unpleasant stay during a recent trip to the UK, which served as the catalyst for the concept.

On the 16th, Noh posted a video of a planning meeting on his social media (SNS) with the caption, "I've been so excited lately that I can't sleep because I suddenly want to make a hotel."
The released video shows Noh conducting an enthusiastic brainstorming session while explaining the hotel concept to stakeholders. He appeared deeply immersed in the project, actively offering opinions on spatial composition, operations, and the guest experience.
Notably, the presentation screen caught eyes with the phrase 'Predictable Eccentricity.' While typical hotels emphasize uniform service and convenience, Noh hinted that he is designing a differentiated space that infuses his own personality and playful sense.
"I might not actually be able to build it, and even if I do, it might just be a very small capsule hotel or a hostel," Noh remarked, adding, "But I love this excitement of imagining and planning something right now." He emphasized that he is finding joy in the process of conceiving new possibilities rather than the scale of the business.
This plan aligns naturally with the hotel experience he recently shared regarding his trip to the UK.
Previously, via his YouTube channel, Noh confessed to experiencing great discomfort at a hotel during his UK trip because the air conditioning was not working. At the time, the UK was experiencing record-breaking heatwaves, but the room cooling was not functioning properly. When he raised the issue at the front desk, the hotel reportedly only responded by saying, "Today is the engineer's day off, so how about using a fan?"
Noh expressed regret, noting that neither a refund nor a room change was granted, suggesting that this experience prompted him to rethink guest-centered accommodation services.
The hotel industry is classified as an experience industry called 'Hospitality,' going beyond the simple service of providing rooms. The general consensus in the industry is that the competitiveness of an accommodation facility is determined by the satisfaction and emotional experience felt by the user during their stay, rather than the scale of the building.
This is consistent with the recent trend in the global hotel market, where 'Boutique Hotels' and 'Lifestyle Hotels' that prioritize specific lifestyles and storytelling are growing rapidly over competition in room count or facilities. Providing original spatial design, differentiated services, and experiences connected to local culture is establishing itself as a new competitive edge.
The concept of 'Predictable Eccentricity' presented by Noh also aligns with this trend. Interest is focused on how his unique sensibility, travel experiences, and the brand image he has built as an entertainer will be infused into the spatial planning.
Since his debut in the broadcasting industry in 2004, Noh has been widely loved for his free-spirited character and challenging spirit in various variety programs, including MBC's 'Infinite Challenge.' Although he underwent a long period of self-reflection after suspending activities due to a drunk driving incident in 2014, he has since returned and continues to communicate steadily with the public through travel content, his personal YouTube channel, and various variety shows.
Recently, he has been focusing on building his own lifestyle brand, moving beyond simple broadcasting activities to operate cafes and bakeries and produce travel content. This hotel project is being interpreted as a new experiment to realize a 'space that is uniquely Noh Hong Chul' rather than just entering the lodging business, and attention is gathering on whether it will lead to an actual business.
