Ryu Hye-young Sparks Controversy Over 'Celebrity Syndrome' Comments on Home Alone
Actress Ryu Hye-young faces backlash after discussing her influence and 'celebrity syndrome' during her appearance on MBC's Home Alone.
Actress Ryu Hye-young is facing controversy after receiving negative comments regarding 'celebrity syndrome' following her appearance on the MBC variety program 'Home Alone,' where she revealed her 11-year life living alone.

In a recent episode of 'Home Alone,' she showed her modest lifestyle, living in an old apartment that she repaired herself. The broadcast ranked first among Friday variety programs, recording a viewership rating of 6.1% in the metropolitan area. The highlight of the show was the scene where Ryu Hye-young made her favorite raw fish rice bowl and wrote in her diary, which recorded a viewership rating of 7.0%.
Ryu Hye-young's home was covered with blackout curtains. Waking up in the dark atmosphere, she studied English and Japanese. MC Kim Shin Young asked, "Is there a reason you are blocking out the sun?"
Revealing her timid personality, Ryu Hye-young confessed, "I began receiving a lot of attention since 'Reply 1988.' At that time, I realized that my words have influence. Because of that, I became more cautious about speaking and meeting people. I am still quite fearful. I tend to keep the curtains closed because of anxiety." After only showing sunlight to her plants, Ryu Hye-young then showed a different side, performing slow running and even dancing in workout clothes.
However, a controversy arose among viewers who were taken aback by her transformation during slow running, which contrasted with her statement about staying away from sunlight. Following her interview comment, "I realized that my words have influence," some netizens posted comments asking, "Hasn't she caught 'celebrity syndrome'?"
