Actor Yoon Dae-yeol prevents further damage at Incheon gas explosion site
Actor Yoon Dae-yeol, known for his roles in "12.12: The Day" and "The Outlaws," prevented further danger following a gas explosion by closing open LPG valves.
Actor Yoon Dae-yeol closed open LPG tank valves following a gas explosion in Majeon-dong, Incheon, on the 27th. His swift response after the blast, which left four people with burns, helped prevent additional damage or leaks.
Actor Yoon Dae-yeol (48), who appeared in films such as "12.12: The Day" and "The Outlaws," contributed to preventing further damage through a swift response at the scene of a gas explosion. Upon discovering that gas tank valves were open following the sound of an explosion, he personally closed them and reported the incident to the police. His calm actions in a situation that could have led to additional explosions or gas leaks have drawn significant attention.
According to the Incheon Seobu Police Station, Yoon was walking near a commercial building in Majeon-dong, Geomdan-gu, Incheon, at approximately 8:45 a.m. on the 27th when he witnessed the gas explosion. Amidst the chaos following the sudden blast, he identified that the valves on two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks placed outside a shop were open. Yoon immediately closed the valves and reported the accident to the police.
It is reported that Yoon's familiarity with the surrounding area allowed him to assess the situation quickly. As a resident living near the accident site, he knew where the LPG tanks were typically located, which enabled him to take immediate action. He observed the scene during the emergency, identified the additional risk factors, and acted upon them.
Police also evaluated Yoon's response as helpful in preventing further damage. A police official stated, "If the gas had continued to leak, a dangerous situation could have persisted," adding, "We believe his judgment prevented additional damage." His rapid response is drawing attention for removing a hazardous element from the scene immediately after the explosion.
Yoon Dae-yeol, however, was cautious about his actions being viewed as something extraordinary. "I simply took action because I knew the location of the gas tanks; I didn't do anything great," he said. He further credited other citizens who responded at the scene, noting, "There were already many other citizens at the scene who were stopping the bleeding of the injured or making reports."
He also expressed that the recovery of the victims and the cleanup of the accident are more important than his own good deed. "Rather than my actions being publicized, I hope for the rapid recovery of the accident victims and a prompt restoration of damages," Yoon stated. He showed concern for the condition of the injured and the recovery of the site rather than highlighting his own actions.
The accident reportedly occurred during demolition work inside a restaurant. As a result of the explosion, four people—three workers in their 60s and one shop owner in their 60s—suffered burns to their faces and other areas and were transported to the hospital by 119 emergency services for treatment. Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, considering the possibility that the explosion occurred while work was being conducted without the gas valves being closed. The specific cause of the accident must be confirmed through the investigation results.
Yoon built his acting career on the stage before making his film debut in 2014 with director Yoon Jong-bin's film "Kundo: Age of the Rampant." Since then, he has expanded his filmography with appearances in "Asura: The City of Madness" in 2016, "The Outlaws" in 2017, "Hunt" in 2022, and "12.12: The Day" in 2023. While known to the public as an actor in various works, he has now made a name for himself through his calm response at an actual accident scene.
While explosion accidents occur in an instant, the response following the accident can determine the scale of additional damage. Yoon identified risk factors and took swift action based on his prior knowledge of the site, while other citizens also responded in their own ways by helping the injured and reporting the incident. As interest continues following the news of his actions, the rapid recovery of the injured victims, the determination of the exact cause, and safe site management appear to be the most important priorities.
