Ahn Jae-wook jokes about "parenting to drink with a clear conscience" following past drunk driving incidents
Actor Ahn Jae-wook sparked conversation on the MBC variety show 'Radio Star' by jokingly linking his dedicated parenting to his ability to drink "with a clear conscience," following two past drunk driving offenses.
Actor Ahn Jae-wook brought laughter to the studio with his candid remarks connecting parenting to drinking. As he revealed his affinity for alcohol during a broadcast, his past controversies involving two drunk driving incidents were brought back into the spotlight.
During the 988th episode of the MBC variety program 'Radio Star' aired on the 4th, guests included Ahn Jae-wook, Jung Young-joo, Nmixx LILY, and Yoo Byung-kwon, who shared various stories and witty banter.
Ahn cited parenting as the reason he had not appeared on 'Radio Star' until now. He stated that he makes an effort to spend time with his children even during breaks between works, noting that he strives to secure time with them despite his busy schedule. Ahn's children are in the 4th grade of elementary school and are 6 years old.
Kim Gura acknowledged Ahn's parenting, noting, "Looking at the program, he was working hard at it," but immediately raised a joking suspicion, asking if he was "working hard to earn points so he can drink alcohol." It was a mischievous tease suggesting that his devotion to parenting might be a prerequisite for his drinking.
Ahn did not deny this, instead retorting with "with a clear conscience," which caused laughter throughout the studio. He further explained his daily routine, saying, "I make dinner, do the dishes, put the kids to sleep, and then say, 'Daddy will be out for just a moment,'" wittily describing how he heads out after completing his parenting duties. He responded cleverly to Kim Gura's joke that linked his efforts in childcare to alcohol.
However, the discussion regarding alcohol on this day evokes a past that cannot be consumed lightly for Ahn. In August 2003, he had his driver's license revoked after a drunk driving accident where he hit the rear bumper of a vehicle ahead while returning home following a drama wrap party. Later, in February 2019, he was caught driving while not fully sober from the previous day's drinking, resulting in a license suspension.
During his second drunk driving incident, Ahn voluntarily withdrew from the musical 'Hero' to enter a period of self-reflection. He returned to the stage approximately five months later in the stage play 'Misery' and returned to home television through the tvN drama 'Mouse' in 2021. As he has faced public criticism for his two drunk driving incidents, his alcohol-related remarks on the broadcast are drawing attention alongside his past actions.
