AKMU Concert Wins Praise for Lee Chanhyuk’s Detailed Staging After Ticket Price Debate
AKMU’s first concert since leaving YG Entertainment drew praise for its staging and audience experience after VIP ticket prices exceeding 170,000 won sparked debate. MBC’s Omniscient Interfering View will reveal the making of Paradise of Rumors and the siblings’ daily lives.
AKMU’s first concert since leaving YG Entertainment won praise for its detailed staging and care for audiences, following controversy over VIP ticket prices exceeding 170,000 won. From a 360-degree circular stage to jazz performances in the waiting area, “Paradise of Rumors” offered an experience shaped by Lee Chanhyuk’s ideas, extending to individual stage props and the roles of audience-facing staff.
The production process will be featured on MBC’s variety program Omniscient Interfering View on the 31st. Alongside the concert’s behind-the-scenes story, Lee Chanhyuk and LEE SUHYUN will show their shared living quarters and daily routines.
Ticket prices became a point of contention before the concert opened. This year’s “Paradise of Rumors” tickets cost 176,000 won for VIP seats, 165,000 won for R seats and 154,000 won for restricted-view seats.
At AKMU’s 2024 debut 10th-anniversary concert, “10VE,” held at the same venue, KSPO DOME, VIP seats cost 154,000 won, R seats 132,000 won and restricted-view seats 121,000 won. The increases drew criticism over the greater financial burden on audiences, particularly because this year’s restricted-view tickets cost as much as VIP tickets had two years earlier.
Once the concert opened, its staging and meticulous preparation drew praise, even as the price debate continued. The attention given to details throughout the venue helped change assessments of the performance, although the controversy did not disappear entirely.
Lee Chanhyuk and LEE SUHYUN left their longtime agency 12 years after their debut and established a new starting point called “Spring of Inspiration.” For their first concert after becoming independent, they worked to express AKMU’s distinctive sensibility throughout the venue.
“Paradise of Rumors” attracted attention for being designed around an experience of the world AKMU imagined, going beyond a succession of popular songs. Music, video and stage elements connected into one narrative, drawing assessments that the concert unfolded like an expansive imagined world. Its planning and execution also made it a test of the direction AKMU would take after independence.
The forthcoming broadcast will explore Lee Chanhyuk’s persistent attention to detail and distinctive aesthetic, showing the stage set built to evoke paradise and the direction used to complete that world. His involvement extended from a single rock onstage to the responsibilities of staff welcoming and guiding concertgoers.
Lee Chanhyuk considered the small elements audiences would encounter as well as the production’s overall structure, working to turn his imagined paradise into a physical experience. The program will show that process of putting ideas into practice, reflecting his nickname as the “head of the Spring of Inspiration.”
The concert combined its 360-degree circular stage with large-scale video and staging that used a real vehicle. The layout was designed to make audiences part of the performance from every viewing direction, adding visual enjoyment, while the interplay of music and performance heightened immersion.
Attention also extended to the time audiences spent outside the main performance. Jazz performances were arranged in the waiting area for standing-room concertgoers facing long waits. That consideration for the experience before and after the show was also cited as a reason for the positive audience response.
As higher ticket prices raise expectations for both performance quality and the overall experience, AKMU’s detailed planning inside and outside the concert space drew attention. Praise focused on how the duo integrated its musical identity and imagined world throughout the production, beyond the use of elaborate stage devices.
The television appearance will also explore the everyday relationship between Lee Chanhyuk and LEE SUHYUN, who have been loved for their original musical world and familiar sibling squabbles. Their musical rapport onstage and candid interactions offstage are among the anticipated attractions of the episode.
Viewers will see different parts of their shared living quarters, including an exercise room that helps LEE SUHYUN with her diet, a karaoke room and spaces where Lee Chanhyuk finds inspiration. Their contrasting tastes and personalities are expected to bring humor to their daily exchanges. Lee Chanhyuk’s old car, reflecting his retro tastes, will also appear, offering a glimpse of his distinctive lifestyle.
