AKMU's Lee Soo-hyun prioritizes health after 30kg weight loss
AKMU's Lee Soo-hyun shares her journey of losing 30kg, revealing that a pre-diabetes diagnosis motivated her to prioritize long-term health.
AKMU's Lee Soo-hyun has shared glimpses of her transformed daily life, maintaining consistent self-care even after losing approximately 30kg.

On the 2nd, Lee posted several photos on her SNS with the caption, “Goodbye summer!! Come slowly!” The photos captured her daily life as she bid farewell to the end of summer. She showcased various styles, such as pairing a short bob with a floral shirt and denim pants, or wearing a white long dress with loafers. She also revealed her signature natural vibe in relatively comfortable outfits like short-sleeved T-shirts with denim shorts, or a jacket with a striped skirt.
Her changed appearance following the 30kg weight loss has drawn significant attention. However, the catalyst for this transformation was not mere aesthetics. Appearing on the YouTube channel 'Chimchak Man' recently, Lee revealed that the decisive motivation for her weight loss was a health checkup. She explained that after receiving a 'pre-diabetes' diagnosis from a blood test, she realized her health was at risk at a young age, prompting her to commit to serious exercise and diet management.
The weight loss process also had psychological roots. She confessed that after moving out and going through a difficult period, she turned to food to relieve stress, which led to significant weight gain. For a time, she avoided facing her condition, even dodging the scale and hospital visits. Later, while managing her diet with her mother, she first lost about 10kg. While living with her brother, Lee Chan-hyuk, she combined diet with exercise. Through a coach introduced by Lee, she reportedly lost approximately 30kg from her peak weight over the course of about a year.
Since the weight loss, she has focused more on maintaining her lifestyle than on the numbers. Lee stated that her health checkup this year returned normal results, giving her a clear reason to “live healthily for a lifetime.” She is treating her weight loss not as a one-time project, but as a permanent lifestyle change.
Her journey is not yet over. Lee recently expressed a goal to lose an additional 7kg and continues her exercise and diet regimen. However, as health cannot be judged solely by weight or physical appearance, the most notable aspect of her case is not 'how much she lost,' but how she reconstructed her lifestyle after addressing her health status.
Lee first rose to fame by winning SBS 'K-pop Star Season 2' alongside Lee Chan-hyuk in 2012, before officially debuting as AKMU in 2014. The duo has built a unique musical identity with genre-transcending hits such as '200%', 'Give Love', 'Long Day, Long Night', and 'How can I love the heartbreak, you're loving me'. Her clear, distinctive vocal tone is considered a core element of AKMU's musical identity.
While a singer's physique is often consumed as a mere image in popular culture, Lee's transformation operates on a different level. The process of reconstructing her life following her health checkup results is garnering more attention than the physical changes shown in her SNS photos.
AKMU will meet fans from October 9 to 11 at the Seoul KSPO DOME for the '2026 AKMU Concert Paradise of Rumors'. Interest is growing to see what new side Lee will show on stage as she continues her musical activities alongside her healthy new lifestyle.
