Miss A’s Jia faces school closure in Los Angeles after paying full tuition
Former Miss A member Jia said her Los Angeles language school abruptly closed with about two weeks of classes remaining, despite her having paid tuition in full. Chinese actor Jin Chen also experienced the closure, while details of outstanding tuition amounts and future refunds remain unconfirmed.
Former Miss A member Jia has had her English studies in Los Angeles interrupted by the abrupt closure of her language school, despite having paid her tuition in full in advance. She reportedly had about two weeks of classes left when the school stopped operating.
Jia recently disclosed the closure in a video diary. She had been studying in the United States to improve her English and had expected to finish her remaining lessons, but the sudden shutdown disrupted her study plans.
The school was identified as EC English, a global English-language education provider. It reportedly suspended operations because of financial difficulties. Although Jia was reported to have been unable to recover her prepaid tuition, her refund status has not been confirmed.
Chinese actor Jin Chen also experienced the closure after beginning English studies at the same school. In a recent livestream, Jin Chen said the school had closed just two days after she arrived in the United States. She also recounted returning to the United States after spending four days working in China and learning of the closure as soon as she stepped off the plane.
Jin Chen had likewise paid her tuition in advance and reportedly had yet to receive a refund. The amounts that either she or Jia had been unable to recover, along with details of any future refund procedures, have not been confirmed.
According to local media, the English-language education provider had a history of about 35 years and halted operations at several campuses amid management difficulties. The sudden closure of the long-established institution also affected other students studying locally, interrupting their classes and leaving uncertainty over whether they could recover prepaid fees. Those combined disruptions have added to the burden on students.
Both Jia and Jin Chen had traveled to the United States to strengthen their English skills, only to have their plans disrupted by the unexpected closure. With lessons unfinished and refunds uncertain, how their cases will be resolved remains a focus of attention.
Jia debuted with Miss A in 2010 and gained popularity through songs including “Bad Girl Good Girl,” “Breathe,” “Good-bye Baby” and “Hush.” After her exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment ended in 2016, she worked primarily in China as a solo singer and television personality.
Having expanded her career across stage and television, Jia encountered the unexpected setback during the American stay she had chosen for her English studies. The outcome of the closure and the unresolved tuition issue remains uncertain.
